I will get back to the blue turkey shortly, but first, I have to expound on second chances and joys of fatherhood. See, “second chance” is the rarest of creatures. I personally was lucky enough to spot and catch it couple of times, but it is getting scarce from what I hear. Except, I just recently I realized that one of the coolest (but not most obvious, at least not to me) things about being a father is that if you want to you can get that rare animal eating out of the palm of your hand. You get to re-read books, re-sing songs, re-play sports, re-think thoughts, re-do things which you know in the back of your mind you didn’t get to do quite right the first time around. And you get to do it with the benefit of skills and experience that you accumulated. And no, I am not talking about living your life through your children, that is not it at all. That is a different subject altogether.
So, today, my son handed me a semi-dead blue dry-erase marker and said “ Папа, индюк!” Though, I did my best, I don’t know whether I would have passed the art class with the blue turkey. When I was done, though, my son was happily jumping up and down, pointing and yelling “Индюк!!!” at the top of his lungs. Who knows, maybe I will honestly earn a passing grade in music one of these days!
