So today I saw a customer flounce off! Part my fault for mishearing, but the guy was still pretty crazy.
Instead of making pizza today, I decided I'd make salads and steam table food instead. This somehow translated to running cash register during the busy time.
This guy comes up with a spaghetti with meatballs on his tray. You can either get one breadstick with it and pay $6.something, or you can get two breadsticks and a drink to make it a combo, it's about $9. Before I can even ask the server if there's anything else with this order, the guy talks.
What I thought he said: I come here all the time* and I want the combo so there better be two breadsticks in there or else I'm leaving.
What he (apparently) actually said: I come here all the time and I don't want the combo so there better not be two breadsticks in there or else I'm leaving.
So, I turn to the server (the new girl) and go "are there two breadsticks in the oven?" She answers that there's only one. Next thing I know, the guy just ~flounces~ off without saying a word. Like, he doesn't even want to talk it out, doesn't even try to explain to me what he actually wants. Hell, he doesn't even ask for a manager, just walks off. Apparently just asking how many breadsticks in the oven is fucking up his service too much. Don't mind that I didn't even have time to touch the register to charge anything!
Seriously, who the hell just leaves the line over a breadstick that, if he had just taken maybe a minute more of his time to clarify again, we could've gotten him what he actually wanted without any issues??
People just boggle me sometimes.
I ate his spaghetti and meatballs and breadstick(just one!) later, since we couldn't sell it and he hadn't touched his tray. It was tasty. The guy was really missing out.
* I have never seen this guy ever and I've worked there almost a year and a half. Something tells me if he was a regular and always had that attitude, I would've heard about him sometime down the line. Only thing I could think of is maaaybe he only comes on Saturdays and didn't recognize me because most Saturdays I'm stuck to that pizza table like glue and don't interact with customers.
