How do they work? I mean, like how do you turn pages & get books on them?

Turning pages is easy. The Amazon one features backward and forward buttons on either side of it. This makes it great for reading while lying down.

You get books by either buying them from the Kindle store or e-mailing them to your Kindle account if you get them from somewhere else or someone sends them to you. If you use the Kindle store, you can link it to your Amazon account so transactions are fast. Everything downloads on the home page and then you just select the book.

It can convert almost anything if you put that in the subject of the e-mail. BUT it hates anything using Adobe Digital Reader, which, unfortunately, is what all the digital libraries use.

It is a shiny of shinyness. You can get a good one for under $200. You probably don't need the more expensive 4G one.
