Hmm, it seems I forgot to renew my account. I hate when this happens. Anyway since I'm trying to keep myself away from the OVA-licious versions of the twins for now. God, why does it have to be so hard I am back on my Sweeney Todd kick.
Upon recommendations from
rackhamrose, I sought out the Sweeney Todd in Concert version, with Patti LuPone and George Hearn.
But I adore the energy LuPone puts into her performance. I would have to say it's arguably stronger than Lansbury's on this aspect. I do love Lovett as more bawdy and fun. Plus, her chemistry with Hearn is gorgeous. I also enjoy Hearn more here than I did in the play. I don't know if his voice has matured or what, but he's just amazing. As is the wonderful man they have playing Toby. His rendition of "Not While I'm Around" almost brings me to tears. I still prefer the movie's Anthony since he's somewhat attractive and the other Anthony's always look weird to me. Though, I have to say my favorite Todd is the original. He just has such a powerful delivery and his voice is to die for. He truly steals the show from Lansbury in the original. He also has a delicious laugh. Sexy. The more versions I watch, the more I lament the comedy they removed from the play, especially the inside jokes within "A Little Priest." Seriously, "Everybody goes down well with beer!" It's priceless! Of all the ones they should have left in tact, it was definitely that one. But again, they wanted to keep Todd dark, and he is a touch too playful in that one. I want to buy Sweeney Todd in Concert.
I also checked out the anniversary version of a much older Lansbury singing with a much older Len. Len truly is as amazing as ever. I would totally buy the original soundtrack to listen to him. I love this play too much.
Oh yeah, I forgot to say how amazing the dress that Christian and Chris made for their challenge was. I should have known they would be an astounding team. Chris isn't really cut out for this show, but I do love how well he gets along with everyone. He's just a lovable teddy.
