People renting houses are assholes -_-

I really have to say this.... -_-

As you might know, I've been looking for a house near Venice since middle September. And sadly, I've found no houses but a bunch of jerks. Three cases are particularly intriguing.

Case #1

Bed in double room in a house in Mestre, still free. It's Saturday (last Saturday), I ask the owner if I can go see the room on Monday, he says it's fine. I tell him I'll call him again the next morning to inform him about the time. I find no discount fares for Monday, so I decide I'd go on Tuesday, but I still don't buy the ticket. The next morning I phone the guy and even before I can tell him "I'll come on Tuesday" he informs me that he'll probably give the bed to another girl (whom he met the day before) if she agrees. He calls me the next day to tell me that she agreed and so no place for me -_- Now.. If I hadn't planned to go on Tuesday I'd have spent useless money for a ticket.... -__-

Case #2

A single room in a house in Mestre. I fix the appointment for Tuesday and I go to Mestre to see it. They originally told me any time of the day was fine, then it turned out that they preferred in the afternoon.. When I arrive there I'm not alone, there are two other people (a student girl and a women working at the post office) who came to see the room. Now, it's not very polite to invite more than one person at a time, because it really looks like you went there to compete with each other. We talk, and one of the girls living there lights a cigarette and starts to smoke, without even asking us if we're fine with it. I think, "Well, it's just one person, I can stand it". Then after a few minutes the other girl starts to smoke as well. They're both in front of us and they don't even bother to open the window. The third girl wasn't there, but I have the feeling she might be a smoker as well. When we go out I chat with the other student girl and it turns out that she not only dislikes smoke, but it even gives her headaches. Anyway, the girls told us they'd decide "within 2 weeks" (that's a LONG time -_-), but I don't even know if I really want the house, since I doubt I could stand 2 or 3 people smoking without caring about who's in front of them...

Case #3

Yesterday a guy I'd emailed last week wrote me back to say that the single room in his house was suddenly free again because the girl had left to go live with a friend of hers. I phone within hours from when I got the email and I ask him when I can go see the house. He says any day of the week until next Friday is fine, so I fix an appointment for Monday (the weekend is a bit of a trouble because of the tourists and people that travel by train, so no discounts and such). Since he said within next Friday, I thought he wanted to see a few people and then decide, like many others do. Like with the other guy, I tell him I'd phone again the next day to decide the time. Today I phone him, and he says he was about to phone me because "today a girl from Capri came here and claimed the room, so I will give it to her". Now.... Same as the first guy. What if I'd bought the ticket already? Then again, why didn't he tell me he'd give the house to the first person he saw? If I knew that was the case I would've gone right away, like today, not on Monday... I stopped myself from saying this to him (and send him to hell) on the phone, but maybe it was a mistake, I should have said it -_- I'm currently considering replying to his email to tell him that he wasn't polite and such..

Anyway... I don't know what to say. It's really hard to comment on the behavior of those people. Where is politeness nowadays? I may have no rights regarding your house, but unless you warn me about the possible risks (e.g. you might give it away before I visit) behaving like that equals to being a jerk. I'm really disheartened... -_-
