I've been looking for source photos for an artistic project, and the nature of the project being what it is, nearly every one of my searches brings me to a Victorian post-mortem photograph of an infant on its father's lap. I am nowhere close to being emotionally cold enough to see that without getting teary-eyed

I saw a bunch of those recently. They are so bizarre. Do people still do that? The last thing I want to remember is the person dead, not alive. So weird.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people did still do that, because people will do all manner of f'd-up things.

Back when the infant photo was taken, it was likely that that was the only picture they'd ever have of their baby. So sad!

I know the sort of photo you mean. There was a vogue for them back in the Victorian/Edwardian days. No doubt the sentiments behind them were good and, in their way, understandable especially in the early "magic" days of photography. But ::cringe, shiver, very sad::
