Sad image

I've been looking for source photos for an artistic project, and the nature of the project being what it is, nearly every one of my searches brings me to a Victorian post-mortem photograph of an infant on its father's lap. I am nowhere close to being emotionally cold enough to see that without getting teary-eyed ( Read more... )

I saw a bunch of those recently. They are so bizarre. Do people still do that? The last thing I want to remember is the person dead, not alive. So weird.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people did still do that, because people will do all manner of f'd-up things.

Back when the infant photo was taken, it was likely that that was the only picture they'd ever have of their baby. So sad!

I know the sort of photo you mean. There was a vogue for them back in the Victorian/Edwardian days. No doubt the sentiments behind them were good and, in their way, understandable especially in the early "magic" days of photography. But ::cringe, shiver, very sad::
