update and snow

Dec 02, 2005 12:06

Snow: it is snowing. Should continue all day. Snow is now sticking in low sodium areas (like lawns). Houses are taking on that gingerbread house sprinkled with confectioners sugar look, but the table has been bumped so all the snow is frosting the lawn instead of the house.

Update: got a ride with S, M and S's husband B home last night because of good timing and the snow. Whilst we were waiting for B, I related the story to S and M about the Veronal buffer (see previous entry.) I was thus able to solve the mystery plaguing S as to why the lab had inherited a giant bottle of sodium barbital from a previous lab. The bottle was from the 70's and no one had any clue what the hell someone would need that much for. The most amusing part was that is had the same warning as the Merck index ("Caution: may be habit-forming") but no other warnings. There were in fact more warnings on the bottle of sodium chloride, (may cause skin irritation, eye irritation, stomach cramps and nausea if ingested). (In case anyone can't remember, sodium chloride is table salt.)
