ER fallout

Aug 18, 2005 11:46

Got my bill today for my ER visit for the chemical contamination. You remember, the one where they called poison control, patted me on the head and took my blood sugar?

Amount due: $352.40

But oh, it gets better . . .

Total amount for emergency room visit before insurance:

(drumroll)

$702.50

Yes, you heard me. $702.50 for a phone call, a blood sugar test and taking my info and blood pressure so they could put a little plastic wrist band on me. I wonder if this included 'storage fees' for when I sat in the waiting room for three hours.

And the best part, my old insurer (who I paid every year for at least 3 years but did not actually ever submit claims to before, so yes, they are coming out WAY ahead here) wants me to fill out a workmen's comp claim so they can get some other insurance company to reimburse them.

Joy.

Yes, I know many people have much worse medical conditions than I do, but I really get miffed when I actually know how much it costs to actually 'do' these procedures. Furthermore, I stand to gain nothing by nitpicking the bill, because the amount I owe consists solely of my deductible (from an insurance company I no longer am covered by) and my copayment.

In other news, my mother's estate is almost just about completely closed (as in the lawyer notified the court that it is done and now it's in the court's hands.) Not counting the house, my total inheritance comes out to be about $1100 not counting any other new fees. And my sister and I will not be reimbursed for any of the money we shelled out. (Which incidently is considerably less than what we got for the house, but considering we only got that because of estate laws and the grace of the hurricane gods, I can't count that as funds my mother considered as inheritable.) So we came out ahead despite Mom and the Aunts Bitch (plural, like the Brother's Grimm).

And my cells are blue. All of them. This makes finding the ones injected with blue marker dye just the slightest bit tough. I'm hoping it's a problem with the microscope, not the cells because that is easier to fix. Of course Boss is out of town until Monday.

Come back, Boss! Come back!
