The Gotheborg Experience ....
Had the opportunity to visit the Gotheborg that visited Singapore recently. Bump into and had a small chat with Mr Tommy Koh and was told that he brought them in, I think it was reported in the papers too.
The feel of being onboard an "ancient" ship is quite an experience. I continously visualise what took place onboard and with the lack of modern days luxury back then, how did the crew cope with the months of sailing. I also feel the positive of a sailing boat in that the sailing itself must have been rather peaceful from the lack of loud engine noise and the intoxicating smell of burned deisels etc ... must be serene passage.

6. Some of the crews are joining in the return leg from Singapore, spoke to several and I think they are going to have anexperience of a life time. Do you know how many lines, or halyards that control the sails that they need to know to be able to help the captain steer the ship?

8. One of the rivets, hand driven as u can see in the markings
9. Such great reflections of traditions ... white canvas and manila ropes
10. Gosh ... I love the feel of this little boat
11. Almost everything is controlled via ropes onboard this ancient ship
12. More lines ... it overwhelms
13. Luckily they had names, helps the new crew align lingo
14. Symbolic of its birth, the rituals and ceremonies onboard ships, used during low visibilities to warned others of its presence .. the ship bell

16. Another plaque bearing the name of a certain line
17. Ever wondered how they sleep onboard? Just above the dining tables are eyelets, clamp on your hammocks and wala .... ur bed
18. Below the deck of Gotheborg ... dining and sleeping quarters and of course the display of canon used during the days back then
19. Aye aye captain ... but which one of these halyards should I release ...
20. The two main mast of Gotheborg, presented to you at one go ...
21. Many of these blocks and tackle helps lessen the pull required of the crew
22. Somehow the sail seem to be hand sewn as you can see in the stiching here ...
