The 'Baby Bath.'

It's days later than I had originally intended, but I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of
Annie's baby shower. Now, who's ready to party?!

As mentioned before,
Heather and I had chosen That Pottery Place in Omaha for Annie's baby shower. We'd been discussing different ideas one night, and I mused that it would be perfect it there was a way that we could all paint little pieces of pottery for Annie to keep in the baby's room. Heather had heard of a place like that, and she found it online - and we were off with the plans! We kept it a secret from Annie until she actually received her invitation (we didn't want her to get lost, so it was best to tell her at that point), and she was properly excited as well. :-D

Heather had worked hard on fruit salad, veggie, meat & cheese trays, and I had ordered the cake. Heh, I had the easy part (though I did get some lip-service from the decorator when describing what I wanted, but it eventually all worked out). On the big day, I picked up the cake and a few other things for Annie's gift and rushed home to get it all packed in the van. I picked up Heather, and we loaded up all her gifts and food, along with the ever-so-adorable Diaper Cake that she'd made earlier (in pics below).

Heather drove my van, and we hit EVERY SINGLE red light on the way into Omaha. We'd hoped to be at the location at 12pm to set up for the 12:30 shower, but we didn't make it until fifteen minutes later. We began taking in loads, and soon our guests started arriving and helped us.
Heather2 brought in several loads from my van, and Annie and her mom arrived about then as well. We were still setting up, so I told Annie to give us a few more minutes and just window-shop a bit at the stores in the same strip mall. However, when I came out to get her, I found her sitting on the ground one store away, chatting with her mom:

They came inside the store and were instantly in awe of all the wonderful little pieces. Seriously, this store is a crafter's dream (or, in my case, a wannabe-crafter's dream!), and your eyes just lust over all the adorable pottery pieces and ideas.

Annie takes her seat at the head of the table.

At per our instructions, Annie had brought along Trunks - baby Douglas's own little shoulder animal! We wanted him to be a part of the baby shower, as he is an important part of the family as well. He was most happy to guard the gifts:

Finally, it was time to really start the shower. Heather began by giving Annie her corsage:

And then it was time for lunch! We'd decided that it would be best to eat first, then paint, and then have cake afterwards. It was the best way not to worry about getting food on our pottery, plus it gave our tummies a little rest before time for cake.

The spread.

(Also known as 'Annie at 36 weeks.' *wink*)

I was the last one to finish eating - mainly because I couldn't stop talking! (Isn't that always the case?) The Heathers were the first ones to get started on their plates, and they began while I was finishing up.

All of us, hard at work on our plates.

And, of course, I was the last one to finish my plate. I had decided to attempt to paint a baby in a basket under a falling star. (Annie's last name is 'Starr' - get it?) It took me longer to put the three coats of blue in the little squares in the quilt I had drawn to cover the baby, and I really hope they turn out as dark as the test tile said they would. *crosses fingers* Also, I was disappointed that there was only black or white as a choice for outlining - I think the baby quilt would have looked MUCH better lined in a blue.

Janiece. Annie's plate is in the very center.)

And then it was time for cake! Annie isn't decorating the baby's room in rubber duckies, but there were so little choices for cake decorations, and I had to really push for this one to begin with. (The decorator didn't think the duckies would fit on a 1/8 sheet cake - pffft!)

Shower cake.

After eating cake (and Annie couldn't finish her piece - she's running out of room in her tummy!), it was time for Annie to open her gifts. 'Trunks' helped her, of course! First up, she opened a small gift bag from both Heather and me, with an even tinier card tucked inside.

Annie opens our card.

And for the curious, we'd given her a set of thank-you notes. Why? Because I am just that OCD that I wanted her to be able to have the thank-you notes that matched the invitations we had mailed out for her shower, and I doubted that she'd come across them on her own, so we bought them when we found them. :-D

Look - a box! "And it's happy to see you!"
(Cookies go to the person who correctly places that quote. *grin*)

A froggy chew toy from me.

A 'Future Star' outfit, also from me.

Silver cup, fork & spoon gift set, engraved with Baby's initials - from Annie's mom.

As is always expected, we took the obligatory 'Annie with all her gifts' shot:

It was a wonderful afternoon, and I think that Annie felt very special and loved. She received a bunch of nice gifts, and little Douglas can now officially arrive! :-)
