I'm new to this community. My husband and I are both 20. We've been married for 16 months. He joined in August. He left a few days ago for Basic training. Then we'll be moving to SC for A-school/Nuke school.
I won't act crazy or jealous. Lol. I know that scares them away. Besides, I'm not a jealous person. My husband is pretty much set in his ways. It's just the fact that he might be different. He told me he won't. He just said after boot camp he hopes to have better posture. My husband has a mean personality, jokes around a lot about stuff that usually men only joke about. I am pretty much the same way as him. I'm just afraid he's going to come back someone nicer.
I had another question. While they are away, can you send them more than one letter a week? How often can he write? I know some friends of mine had boyfriends over in Japan and one wrote and called all the time, while my other friends boyfriend hardly did. I suppose it's because the one who hardly called had problems. I guess what I'm getting at is, do they have a small window where they can write, do they not have a window at all and I shouldn't expect a letter for a few weeks? What happened when your husband/ boyfriend was at Navy bootcamp? Did they write a lot? I don't have his address because it's only been a few days since he joined, but I want to do what you ladies already suggested. Communicate.
You can send them as many letters as you possibly can write! I wrote mine two times a day! The more the better!
He can really only write on Sundays when they have Sunday liberty (but often times they sneak a letter or two. ;) )
You won't get a letter for about...two or three weeks. First they have their p-days which is almost a week, and then getting settled into everything. Navy mail is SLOW.
Mine wrote quite a bit, I got an average about four letters every Thursday.
Call his recruiter for his address. I got mine the day after he made it to Great Lakes. They can hunt down anyone in the Navy, really.

My boyfriend didn't really change. He went in a man, came out a sailor. Boys will change. They go in boys, come out men. My boyfriend just has a little more pride now. He stopped wearing his welding shirts with holes in them, that's about it. He's still dumb and silly and lovey dovey as ever.
My friend just went up to Great Lakes a few days ago also. He'll be in SC for the same thing, too!
The best advice I can give you are these few things: 1. Do NOT count down days. Time will crawl. Weeks aren't as bad. 2 You married him because you trust him, right? Trust him. 3. Learn as much as you can about what he'll be doing in boot, and afterwords. The more you know, the less mysterious everything is.
Thank you so much for this. It really helped me. I feel SO much better now. I will probably write him once a day.
Thankfully I already knew not to count down the days.
I do trust him. The only thing I'm worried about is that they are now letting women in subs. It makes me nervous. But who wouldn't?
Before he left he sneaked called/text me while waiting to go to the base and driving to the base. So hopefully he'll write me as much as yours did.
I've been working a lot lately, it makes time go by faster. I plan on quitting my job(Because I don't really need it anymore now) and going back to San Diego where all my friends and family are until he's finished. I know that will make time go really really fast. I'm looking forward to it.
You know, I bet your friend and my husband are in the same room, lol. My husband left for boot camp on the 7th and arrived on the 8th. Did you friend do the same thing?
It's true they're letting women on subs now, but the deal with that is (from what I've read so far) is that they are STARTING to, there is a big process to go through and within 2 years times they are only allowing female officers on boomers only.
Enlisted and officers are not allowed to fraternize. They even have seperate sections for housing for officers and enlisted.
That being said, I don't think you have to worry about that. I wouldn't worry about women being on subs anyway. All they do is work work work.
Besides, he'll be in SC for about 2 years for his training anyway. By the time he graduates his NUC school you and him and everything will be different. You'll have two years to adjust to Navy life better.
Seems like they may be part of the same division! There would be a pretty good chance. How cool would that be!?
I'd start working out your graduation plans now, too. I had a hard time figuring out all of that hotel/rental car stuff.
Oh my gosh yes. I already started making plans. I plan on buying a car and packing next month when I quit my job. I want to work as much as possible before I go and visit my family in CA. I'm going before he graduates and arriving a few days earlier.
I have to make arrangement for my animals, get rid of my salt water fish. I have no idea how to even start on the salt water tank.
I'm so nervous about him graduating, lol.
I'm glad you told me about the subs. I am less nervous now. Thanks. Also about the letters too. I am so glad I can write every day! I'm so excited!
Whats your friends name? I can ask in my letter. My husbands name is Chris D.
