Cote de Pablo on the cover of "Prevention"

People love to talk about how their partner makes them a better person. Cote de Pablo, refreshingly enough, cherishes her boyfriend for the opposite reason.

"I'm in a long-term relationship with [actor] Diego Serrano, and I'm very happy. He's the worst influence that I have ever had in my life, and I love him for it," the NCIS actress, 31, tells Prevention magazine in its January issue, on newsstands Nov. 30.

"Every once in a while, he turns to me and goes, 'Live a little.' I'll have chicken with broccoli and he's like, 'What about the chocolate cake?' If it weren't for him, I'd be the most boring person in Los Angeles."

She and Serrano are a nice mix in that way. "My partner's idea of fun is to dress up, get in the car, pump the music, go clubbing. I could not be further away from that. I love being at home, having friends over," she says. "So, we balance each other."

De Pablo also talks in the interview about her past weight gain - she put on 15 pounds at one point when she went off the pill and took Depo-Provera for birth control.

"There were two ways of looking at it," she says. "You would say, 'Oh, God,' and cry about it, or say, 'You know what? This is who I am. I'm going to be carrying a little more weight, and I don't care.' Sometimes nature needs to do what it has to do to get something out of your system. And then, once it's out, you're fine."
