here's an old Taoist story i probably tell way too much.

There once was a stonecutter who worked all day at the quarry gathering marble for the rich merchant who lived down the street. One day, the stonecutter thought to himself, "I wish i were the merchant, then i could sit back in my shop and live a life of luxury." And so he became the merchant, and was wealthy. One day a tax collector entered the merchant's shop, and took all of his money away. The merchant thought to himself "I wish I were the tax collector, then I could ride around on a satin chair and take the money from rich men." So he became the tax collector, and rode on a leather-bound chair carried by servants. One day when the tax collector was getting off the chair, his sweaty back sticked to the leather and he thought to himself... "I wish I were the sun. Then I could make even the mightiest man scorch from my heat." So he became the sun, and even the emperor wiped the sweat from his forehead... until one day a cloud blew blocked his rays. "I wish I were a cloud," thought the sun, "Then I would be even more powerful than the sun." So he was the cloud. And his rains flooded towns, fed crops, and even his mere shape blacked out the sun... Until one day the cloud noticed he was being moved by some unseen force. "I wish I were the wind, then I would even control the mighty cloud!" So he became the wind, and all that he willed was thrown by his force. Until he came across something he could not move. "I wish I were the mountain. Then I would be unmovable and all powerful." So he was the rock. and no matter how hard the wind blew, he did not move. But then, the mountain noticed something... at the base of his figure, came the small shape of a stonecutter, who began to chizzle at his side.

i guess it's alittle long. it doesn't seem it when spoken...
