i locked myself out of my car right outside the grocery store. I have no spare keys. Stuck in the middle of a parking lot at 10AM, I now find myself with an hour to kill before someone can unlock my car.
I step into the grocery store. I don't have to buy anything; I just have nothing else to do. So I walk around the store secretly listening to other peoples' conversations.
this may sound like an odd question, but have you ever eavesdropped in a public place? if you haven't, and have an hour to spare, try it out. you'll be amazed.
suddenly i realized how little just one person can be in this vast world; but the more things i heard, i realized that we're all more connected than i had originally thought. we all have problems. passions. dreams. fears. tangents. families. friends. idle thoughts. tuesday mornings.
we are all people. in a supermarket. saying something. then listening.
then my cell phone rang. someone was ready to unlock my car and let me get back to my own, apparently not so different, life.
