Sigh

Dec 16, 2012 21:10

So, pretty much over the strep. Still tire very easily, though, which I do not like.
Middle kid is on the upswing, we think. Fever has stayed under 100 all day. Now, however, he has a cough that sounds like bronchitis.
Just have to get everyone through three days of school, and we can have a nice break. Well, they can. I still have to work some days.
Neighbor's annual Christmas party this evening. It's ok, we don't know a lot of the people so we tend not to stay a whole long time, but this year had a nice conversation with a couple we know from swim team, and the husband is the realtor who represented the sellers of our house. He's hard to get to know ( I used to think he was a total ass) but now that I know him a bit better he is really very nice, and quite interesting.
I'm sure he used to think I was a pain in the ass, so all's fair :)

There are very few words to describe the events since Friday. Sorrow, pain, grief, confusion.
Amazed at how people take an act, by a mentally ill or just evil person, and turn it into God's judgement on America. Really. BIL posted some bs post about God judging America just like he did Israel. I'm sorry, did I miss the chapter in the Old Testament where Americans were called God's chosen people?
So here's what he actually wrote.
We've been systematically removing God from our country. Not only will He not bless America but His judgement will be seen. If you know the scriptures the example is clearly set before us by the judgement of Israel in Isaiah when they did exactly what we have done. It's strikingly similar. As long as our government denies His sovereignty and the people accept it "God bless America" will be a vain cry.

I couldn't respond on his page. I just couldn't. But this is what I wrote on a friends post and then on my own page:

Here is my response to the tragedy that I posted on a friend's wall. Because God loves the entire world, not just the people here. Because God is not a God of any one modern nation more than any other. God is not political - God craves our hearts, our love, our very essence to be in relationship with God. We must work to show God's love to all around us. Go
d couldn't care less if you live in the US or in Antartica except as it affects your work and your love for God and God's Kingdom. We don't need a theocracy, we need hearts that love God and work for the least among us. So here is what I wrote, and what I truly feel:

We must love those around us:
love and not ignore,
love and not discard,
love and not be afraid to confront.

We don't know what lead to this tragedy, but we know our response.

Pray for those involved,
pray for those who must be first responders,
pray for those who must go on living.

Stand up and say to those around you "I am here to help you before you lose all hope; I am here to make sure that all children will be safe; I am here to stand up and speak up when I see injustice or hurt, or a tragedy in the making..."

And now people are lining up, knee jerk reaction on some parts, on the gun control/no gun control issue. Really. We have hunting guns (locked, secure, etc). But they aren't automatic or even semi automatic. And when middle kid was going through a really rough patch, we took them to the inlaws. More guns is not going to solve this problem.

I cannot imagine the pain of losing your child in this way. I can't imagine the pain of your child killing others in this way.
