They were taken out of their homes in the middle of the night forced to give up their freedom - all they had was their culture.
Same with Native Americans - my ancestors gave them cheap beads and diseased blankets in exchange for their homes.
And someone that isn't a minority has no place talking about what it feels like to be a minority. No more than a man has a place to stand up and say "this is what it feels like to be a woman."
Our nation's entire history is based on European (and therefore white) influences. Even in history classes, when you discuss places like Asia and Africa - 90% of the time, you are actually learning about Europe's encounters with Asia and Africa. We learn about Ancient Greeks and Romans, but what about the kingdom of Mali??? Sorry if this person is BLIND, but we live in a WHITE society. Anyone who disagrees is seriously retarded.
The point of this is to say that I'm sorry, I don't care how integrated, how unracist you are, there's something unsettling about being surrounded by people who don't look like you. It would be absolutely WONDERFUL if that weren't true, but truth is truth. Minorities have a right to cling to their cultures with everything they have because most of them are CONSTANTLY surrounded by people that don't look like them.
And no, you may not be allowed to say "white pride!" but... you can say "everyone loves italians" and "Ireland is neat-o"
