I think the point is (or at least what strikes me about this conversation) that it's not really fair to set up a situation in RP, using a resource/prop/group/whatever that is not ENTIRELY in your control, simply to make that resource/prop/group/whatever look bad.

At least not without some attempt to try and make an effort to contact the person in charge of that resources/prop... you get the idea.

For long winded example:
I played on a Firefly based game where every /freakin/ day we had NPC Alliance reps made out to be idiots, sadists, or twits just to be taken down by our Brave True Wonderful PC ex-Browncoats. Is it the ex-Browncoat's right to play and get to run through scenes that they can be AMAZING in? Of course. Being who they are, should some of those scenes be against Alliance? Sure. Are some Alliance stupid/dumb/sadists? Sure. But you can bet that the PC Alliance felt unfairly ganged up on. They were being put in a situation where, without their consent, they were made a minority in their own organization. The only competent people in the whole Alliance! That wasn't realistic. It's not canon.

When you start catering to the minority of the situation ( IE: Police never show up ) you can start skewing things badly in a direction of unrealistic. It should be a 1 in a 100 situation.

Unfortunately, this is a game. No one is going to play out the other 99 situations where things go well. There is no majority padding of truth (IE: the police show up) unless we demonstrate it and let that effect the rp.

I'm not saying that I think no one can believe the watch is not there, or whatever. But that at the VERY least the player should realize that's a bit of an extremist view. Just as, right, now, anyone who thought that the Police were NEVER there, would be considered to be a minority.

My two cents babble :)

That is the point I was trying to make. Not looking for a job are you? Apparently the Watch could use a good PR spindoctor.
