Summer heat

Sweltering here at work, and its time for another update.

Most of what I wanted to talk about is a subject I haven't had nearly enough time or opportunity to work on in a while, equality. Sly and I are elated that California's Proposition 8 was declared unconstitutional last week by Judge Vaugh Walker. Even though the immediate attacks from the right about everything from the ruling to the judge are infuriating, the fight is damned worth it.

In reading only snippets from the hundred plus page ruling the judge issued over Facebook, it seems that everything we have known as a community for ages is finally brought to light by the other side's complete lack of a case to begin with. Plus, the temporary stay may soon be over and done, with the chance to appeal dim with no support for it from the Governor and Attorney General.

Riding on the coattails of the Federal Judge's ruling about DOMA in Massachusettes sets a positive marching beat to achieve the final goal. At least on this line of thought, I'm happy. The wuff has been fired up about it too, often getting upset about attacks from the right on news stories relating to the issue, using the energy to fire back with his own well-thought commentary, even meeting a few new friends through the process.

In other news, things fell through with the car I wanted. The same bank that practically threw money at me to fix the Grand Prix suddenly wants a twelve month payment history to extend the loan, despite original encouragement to return if i needed anything. So, I'm hoping the GP stucks together as long as I need it. 148,500+ miles, if I remember right. The window motor gave me a rather large fight a few weeks back.

One from the junkyard was bad, too. Tried several combonations of parts from the junkyard regulator and my original, but bother were shot. Had to bite the bullet and buy new from autozone, but spent another several attempts at making the window get back onto its tracks on both sides before it was happy. I'm glad its done with.

Work has been awful, like usual. Its hard for anyone in my department at that place to have a good day, let alone for me to watch the wuff struggle with people who seems to only exist to berate him. However, I think our boss is cooking up something to finally put an end to it.. time will tell.

Not too much else to report.. got my ebay'd sewing machine working and Sly's bodysuit is in progress, assuming I can get the wrinkles out of the fur. Speaking of fur, he fursuited at Hancock Fabrics where we got it. The reaction left us rather pissed off and disappointed.

We also bit the bullet and financed a bed. Queen-sized pillowtop. We'd had enough of awful nights of (no) sleep, and I had a spring jam itself into my ruptured disc, nearly launching me off the bed. Its quite heavenly to lay on now, and the basement seems more like a home.

The wuff was bad(or good, depending on how we look at it :P) and got me the Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty collector's edition. I splurged and picked up the limited edition hardcover strategy guide. Not that i'm a hardcore PC gamer or something (my computer barely handles it,) but I spent a LOT of time on the original, and he knew I looked forward to the sequel. Its been fun so far! ^_^ He spends some time here and there griping at EVE Online or drooling on Mass Effect 2. Silly puppy. ;)

The fish tanks have been a source of problems ever since AC, unfortunately. We came home to a massive algea bloom and a case of ich developed, which claimed over half the tank. We also lost the shark because it tried to steal food as I was trying to feed a very sick jawfish and got tangled in the net. I suspect he injused himself and just didn't recover. The Fu Man Chu lionfish died a week or so ago. I suspect that was due to a failure to get him to ween onto frozen marine foods, leaving live freshwater food which lack proper nutrients the only option.

The yellow tang, Dwarf Fuzzy lion, spotfin jawfish and maroon clownfish were all that survived, and I gave away the clownfish because we were sick of him rearranging the tank and injuring corals. Things seem to be stabilizing now. When budget allows, we intend to set up the 30 gallon again to take in the lionfish and predators, so the big tank can become a peaceful reef again.

Speaking of budgets, we set up some limits and numbers over the weekend. We can easily pay off the bed and make it to MFF this November comfortably, while I work on my personal loan, and Sly works on his consolodation loan at a MUCH better payment plan.

Not much else to report here.. over n out.
