I ended up splitting 25 into two chapters; the first one is now drafted, so here is chapter 24 for your reading pleasure. 1100 words. Zoe gets medieval.
Very powerful writing there. In fact, so powerful, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this chapter. I'd kinda hoped they wouldn't really have to kill a bunch of people on the police station, and really hoped Zoe could avoid the whole bloody revenge thing. I know it's in her to do it, just kinda hoped she wouldn't.
If it helps, it isn't sheer vengefulness. This is a wartime diversionary tactic. But I think you still have to steel yourself for that kind of killing, and Zoe's not lacking in the experience necessary to do that.
Very true. And I hope you didn't take my comment to mean that I didn't like the chapter. I did like the chapter. And still in awe of the power the writing in that chapter conveyed actually. Your words were perfect, vague and crystal clear all at once. And I think it was probably all the more powerful because after reading it, I realize that while *I* wouldn't want Zoe to do that, that is probably EXACTLY how she would feel while providing the distraction.
I wasn't sure I could do it in prose; I'm still not sure that I have done it. But this was as close as I could come to that look on her face, and the way she moved, in the film. Prose is a very different medium.
OMG! I think this is the best thing I've ever read. I love how Zoe is on the war path and it's about vengence and her getting some kind of revenge for what they took from her and what they put between her and Wash. I love this chapter. I have no other words. I will now stand speechless and re-read this several times. I just... wow...
I mean, I didn't think Zoe could ever be that cold, but for some reason I see the validity of her attacking them. I know it was a diversion but it was personal for her. And I loved it. Thank you.
Hey now. I'm an English major, so I mean I've read some great authors and such. I'm just saying this is very moving and it touched me, putting on the best things list. I see Zoe's pain and her anger here and she does actually say "I'm pissed." It's good work.

I'll have to think about this for awhile...
But, still very powerful writing. Well done.

This chapter just made this fic...a fic I've already been loving to death, mind you, both for concept and execution...into something discernibly more.
Did I come in the guise of the thing you feared?
Such injustice.

Such injustice.
The whole chapter was pretty much just for those two lines. For me, anyway.

I was so glad everyone else was out of the office when I read this one. I totally sniffled. :(

Zoe... scares me.
And at the same time, I love her for her strength in this. This series is still so very mindblowing to me.
Fantastic.
