My Thoughts on Aqua

Oct 22, 2005 08:47

So I've finally got my thoughts all in order from this episode. And here's what I've got. But before that, give it up to Giulia for making such a cool banner of Clark and AC. YEAH!

Opening Scene

Clark and Lana’s relationship is as nauseous as it comes. Never mind the fact that nothing truly genuine exists between the two. With that said, seeing Lois not care about their romance made me feel a whole hell of a lot better.

And again, Clark is still depressed about having his powers back. This denial further separates him from the man we know him to be. He’s so completely devoid of appreciation, I want to throw up most of the time.

Soon after, Lois is swimming in the lake with a two-piece that I want to buy for myself but won’t because I still need to go to the gym. She dives backwards, but a lose piece of board that extended too far out obstructed her dive and she is left unconscious and drowning under water.

Clark dives in to save her only to be thwarted by another.

The stranger rescues her, doing a little CPR while he was at it (don’t lifeguards normally check for breathing and a pulse before going straight into resuscitation?) The reason I ask is because I took a three-month EMT training and there are processes involved.

Alas, ignorant writers. What the hell happened to DeKnight man?

Anyway, he revives her and immediately starts flirting with the lovely Lois Lane, teasing that she stay on the shallow end until she learns how to swim. She returns it with a quip of her own. Breath mints. I love Lois. Even near death, she doesn’t stop being who she is. LOL! I find that rather amusing in a cool sort of way.

Lex Luthor

He’s a bad ass this episode. He’s a bad as without being maniacal. His dark side is becoming more expressive. Michael Rosembaum plays the arrogant going to the dark side Lex Luthor to the fullest. He’s becoming the ruthless businessman that we know him to be in the future while still coming off somewhat sympathetic.

Lana Lang

She’s still a useless character. Doesn’t matter if she’s the center of attention, it never comes across right.

Chloe Sullivan

She’s now becoming Clark’s sounding board, being the voice of reason. There was nothing new about her scenes because we’ve already seen it before.

Cousins

I feel totally jipped. Three episodes of hardly any cousin interaction. What the hell is that all about?

Arthur and Lois

Majority are not fond of these two together, but I thought they were a lot of fun to watch when Alan wasn’t struggling with the dialogue. The swim date got me smiling. Seeing Lois having fun in the company of another male and with NO angst… yeah, that definitely left me happy.

“Just enjoying the view”

See, Arthur comes off as the kind of guy that knows who he is and what he wants. He’s not afraid of telling a woman how beautiful she is, and because Lois is an incredibly beautiful woman, how can we not appreciate that. Throughout the episodes, he’s called her beautiful, gorgeous, and amazing.

Yeah, I can’t hate Arthur and with some more acting gigs, there’s room for improvement for Alan.

And then there’s their final scene. It was low-key, not over the top, and the Durance’s nuances rules! She is truly an amazing actress. I would really love to see her branch out beyond Smallville during their hiatus. And it was a beautiful kiss goodbye, far better than their first attempt because that looked a little choppy, especially for Alan who seemed to rush into it. The last kiss was slow and a little more meaningful.

Ahh… if only that had been Clark. Oh well.

Lois and Clark

I’ve mentioned it before, and I’ll say it again.

Yes, these two rock but that’s not what I wanted to say.

Clark has a lot of maturing to do. He’s still very much selfish when it comes to his gifts. He looks at them as a burden. Always thinking about the problem rather than the solution.

What we see going on between Lois and Clark is what I want to see continue in the series. They’re not romantic interests to each other but we know there’s some major sparks going on between them.

I want a friendship between them full of trust, confidence and respect. The end scene proves that they can accomplish that.

These are two people who want nothing from each other, but still get everything from each other.

I don’t want Clark anywhere near Lois romantically until he gets his head on straight. Until he’s cleansed of all the negative things Lana has brought out in him. I want a Clark who isn’t superficial. Is that too much to ask? He is our future Superman.

Lois Lane

I’ve read that people are concerned about her place on the show this year. Wondering why she’s shacking it up with the Kent’s again. Some people are just incapable of looking beyond what they see. Lois has had a great deal of character development, especially in this episode and the previous season.

It’s gonna culminate to something and we can’t wrap up her own presence on the show in a bow with a pretty ribbon. She has an evolution too, and we’re going to see it.

Other than that… Umm… I enjoyed the episode immensely.
