Where was I before I was so rudely interrupted by gaping facial wounds? Ah yes.

Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story-- Remember those 50 cent family movies I was talking about? Anna picked this one last Monday. It wasn't too bad but it wasn't great, either. The characters seemed more real than your average feel-good family movie even if the plot ( Read more... )

have you seen pride and prejudice yet? the latest movie version that is. i went to see it yesterday with india and we loved it. i was worried it couldn't stand up to the excellent BBC mini series of a few years ago, and colin firth is still the best darcy by far, but aside from that it was a wonderful telling of the old story and the filming was like art. it was beautifully and very creatively shot.

i saw trailers for geisha and the thing that annoyed me was that they had chosen a chinese actress to play it. it felt a bit of a western casting agent going "near enough is good enough and they all look the same". but no doubt i shall get myself over that hump to go and enjoy it.

brokeback mountain has just started here and i want to see it so much but india won't be able to get in because the age limit is 14 and they're quite strict here. it's hard to get to films without her and there's no way a gay love story is going to coax H out his self imposed ban on movies in the cinema...

oh, and i missed wallace and gromit here dammit. i was so wanting to see it. i think buying it may be the answer as well

Funny you should mention! I haven't seen either the BBC mini series or the movie but a couple of weeks ago one of my neighbors told me that they were watching the mini series and they remarked to each other that I look a lot like Elizabeth, played by Jennifer Ehle! I'm not so sure of the comparison, but with that kind of flattery, how could I not add it to my Netflix queue right away?

Hollywood does the old switcharoo on us so often that I was just relieved it wasn't Cameron Diaz as "The Last Geisha" or other nonsense, really! Sure it would have been nice to have the entire movie cast be unknowns so that I could get into the movie more (rather than half expect Michelle Yeoh and co. to start jumping around roof-tops and beating the crap out of each other) but I've learned not to expect too much from those Hollywood grass fuckers, as my buddy the Filthy Critic calls them.

just saw Brokeback Mountain. You don't want India seeing it. The sex was't that offensive but the violence, what there was of it, was brutal and would be difficult to explain.

yes, i can see the resemblance between you and jennifer ehle! if you haven't seen either, order the mini series over the net. it's wonderful. and you can watch yourself get steamy over colin firth doing his darkest most broody :)

thanks for the tip on brokeback. shall just have to take myself off or drag a girlfriend along i guess.
