Jury Duty.

I'm one of the twelve angry.  I didn't try too hard to weasel out after all.  Most of the other people who did sounded like such cry-asses that it would have been embarrassing to even try.  Looks like the trial will go for the rest of the week but I hope it doesn't go over.  I like fellow my jurors--we all got along like peas and carrots--but I don ( Read more... )

You know, what's up with this? Are the gov't workers suddenly trying to meet a quota at the end of the year? Like a cop with speeding tickets at the end of a month? I'm serious. I have a jury summons. Two other people at work have a jury summons, all right out of the blue. No one had one for months. Now two of us even have a summons for the SAME day (2 days before Thanksgiving, like they're really going to START a trial on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving... riiiiiight....). This in our town of 12 people. Okay, so S.V. is bigger than that, but you get the idea. Jeez.

It must be a thing, trying to clear out all the year's trials before the end. Seems like the employees @ the courthouse have been working overtime. I hope you don't get yanked!

It's not that I don't want to. I know it's my civic duty and all that, my contribution to the justice system. But 2 days before Thanksgiving? And just as bad, it's a payroll week at work. And guess who is the ONLY person who knows how to do the payroll for 51 people?

::sigh::

Of course, if they didn't get paid, maybe they would actually treat me better. Hmmmmm...

SO are you still in? Has a lynch mob of unpaid employees formed outside your house yet?

We (a coworker and I -- small town) were among the initial 20 or so chosen to be evaluated, but ultimately not among the final 8. Speaking of... 8? I thought there were supposed to be 12. Anyway, it was some weasley-looking guy (okay, clearly I would not have been a good, unbiased juror, so it's just as well I was excused) accused of assaulting a peace officer (Sheriff or State Trooper) off Highway 90. I got the payroll done, but clearly the boss has lost whatever ability he USED to have in doing this, because he couldn't even remember the most basic things that have to be done. Jeez.
