Olympic gold in horrificness

I used to believe that the rest of the world had every right to think that Americans were idiots. But the more I expressed that to people (Americans) around me, they agreed... which would then mean that there was hope!

That hope was soundly laid to rest last night as NBC's Mary Castillo, during a tour of restaurants in Beijing, went to a lovely formal tea house and sang, "I'm a little teapot" while waiting for her food.

After which she and Bob Costas discussed how, although her exploration of "strange" things that Chinese people eat was presented acceptably, she didn't actually EAT any of those things we thought she ate, because how horrible is THAT, and then she presented Bob with a nicely cooked scorpion on a stick, which he proceeded to wave around enthusiastically and also not eat. On top of having already decided NBC was seriously off their nuts for the way they didn't cover Japan in the Men's Gymnastics Team final (except to repeatedly discuss how horrible they were) when they went on to win the Silver...

I honestly never thought I'd miss my extra cable channels, but now I'd do nearly anything to be able to watch the Olympics live and never suffer from NBC poisoning again.

I give NBC the full 20 points and the gold medal in International Offensiveness.
