Just cos we're having a say-so, not lining up to be playdoh

Jun 08, 2008 06:36

So, I started the alphabet meme! Here is the first half - and then I'm going to go to bed, I think, since it's 6.36 in the morning and I've been up all night playing Super Mario Galaxy. I have regained just enough control in my left hand that it's not like a Chandler-esque claw hand any more, which it was earlier! Curled into the shape of the nunchuck!

A - Anthony Head (jossno1fan)
So, of all the people I've met at all the cons/things I've done (and there are a lot), Tony is probably the best known to people in the real world. Along with Malcolm McDowell (and Alan Tudyk to an extent, though he's more "You know, the one who was the pirate in Dodgeball/Robot in I, Robot/he was in A Knight's Tale etc") if somebody asked who I'd met at all these cons, Tony would be the one I said first. Because he's awesome, and stuff. He's fab to meet - the first Collectormania I saw him at, he had his sandwiches out while he was signing, and he didn't take a break. And the second Collectormania I saw him at, jossno1fan parked in a bush, so that one will always be memorable!

B - Bones (jossno1fan)
I was a late starter with Bones. Not because I didn't want to watch it - I like David, I watch CSIs and stuff, and I'd heard it was funny. I just didn't get around to it! I saw Adam Baldwin's episode (and for the record, totally called that he was dodgy) but that was all. Then they started showing it on Sky Three about a year and a half behind, so I watched those when I remembered. And it was good! So when onmycrew and I were in San Diego in December and they had seasons one and two both in the BOGOF deal at Suncoast, I said if I had any money left after the cruise I'd go back and get them. And I did, so I did! I blitzed them on my own, and then downloaded all the episodes of S3 that had aired and watched those with Mam. Re: the twist at the end of S3. I thought it was lame and didn't make any sense at all. I think if it had been explained in a way where it made sense, I could have bought it, but it felt like they were all "Oooh! We need a twist. What would be the most shocking thing we could do with this storyline?" Hodgins was too obvious. Sweets was too obvious (although I did think it was him for a while before they SAID he was a suspect, just because they seemed to be pushing it so hard on it being Hodgins). I never suspected Zack though, not even with the whole thing about the pipes in the area where Hodgins lives. My brain just didn't click with "duh! That's where Zack lives too!", not even in the slightest.

So I'm sad about that, but that aside, I love the show and am dead excited about the forthcoming London thing for S4!

C - Cordelia/Giles (onmycrew)
This was the first couple I really ever RPed. They were so awesome, and they had all those little moments on the show (decaf land, one of these days you're gonna wake up in a coma, I can take a hint - what's the hint? and so many more!) that were so fun to play with from a relationship POV. Plus once Shirley and Tonya had hooked Xander up with Jenny, there wasn't even any room for judgement there! The first time Shirley came over to England, four years ago ... today, actually! (Bloody hell!! June 8th 2004!) Christie and I met her at the airport with the sign I'd made that said "Giles for Cordelia." She took it home with her and everything! It was a big deal for us. And I still stand by the fact that they're the best couple from the first three seasons. (Giles/Anya being the best couple from the latter seasons, oh yes.)

D - Delta Goodrem (fallen_wiccan)
Deeeeeeeelta! I love Delta. Delta is freaking awesome. I mean, aside from the music (which I'll get to in a minute), she's just such an amazing person. I am such a Delta fangirl. She was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in July 2003, when she was just 18, and had a number one single and album in Australia (#2 in the UK) at the time. Just the whole way she dealt with it was amazing. I keep saying that but there's no other word! I first saw Delta when she was in Neighbours. She'd just joined the show and I don't know if her singing storyline had even started to air (possibly only just), but I read on ... some Neighbours website, it may have been neighbours.com back in the days when the official site was any use, that she was releasing an album. Due to the Australian dollar being soooo cheap, I placed a pre-order for Innocent Eyes, her debut album, and I have never looked back. From the day it arrived it's been one of my all time favourite albums, one I can go back to time and time again!! Her acting, well, I'd be lying if I said she was the best actress ever, but I still loved Nina in Neighbours. I've been a Neighbours fan as long as its been on the air and Nina is one of my favourite characters. Partly because hearing Delta sing bits of tracks from IE on TV was exciting but partly because she was probably the only soap character who's ever been NICE without being boring! No agenda, just nice!

Her music... when she released Delta, her most recent album, late in 2007, I wasn't keen on it. Not that I didn't like it, but I just didn't like it quite as much as Innocent Eyes and Mistaken Identity. But a few listens in and I love it. The majority of my favourite songs on the album (Brave Face, I Can't Break It To My Heart, You Will Only Break My Heart, In This Life, Possessionless) are as good as (if not better than) my favourites on IE and MI. Plus, pretty much every single b-side or unreleased track she's done is good enough that it could have made the album. No duff tracks from Delta! And regardless of what people think of Brian McFadden, and whether or not he's any good for her (I personally fall on the side of YAY BRIAN there), their voices just go so well. The live version of Almost Here they did at the Visualise tour is one of my most played tracks ever, as well as their version of Flying Without Wings from the same night.

So, that was a long ramble. Basically, to sum up? I love Delta Goodrem.

E - Electromagnetism (jossno1fan)
I know nothing about Electromagnetism. It's something to do with science! Oh!! And the island on Lost has to do with Electromagnetism. With the pushing of the button and the electromagnetic field buggering up when they didn't press it in time, and therefore that's what made the plane crash. And it would appear that it's also what made Ben able to MOVE the island. But considering I pay very little attention at all to Lost most of the time that's about as much as I can say. Though I'm not convinced that people who DO watch the show avidly could understand it enough to be able to explain it all in much more detail as it is. Not without looking stuff up anyway.

F - Fred/Marco (onmycrew)
This is my crossover OTP (this, and Kaylee/Marco, but this one came first)! It came from one of those "give me two characters and I'll write a dialogue between them" memes, but they're so perfect together. They're brainy! They'd be cute. It would be like Wes/Fred except Marco is younger, hotter, and he's on her level with the sciency stuff rather than the book smarts. I could just imagine them spending nights sitting around together nerding out infront of sci-fi DVDs, and spending the daytimes at work poking each other on Facebook. The cuteness is just too much! It's cuteness overload! And yet at the same time... it's just right! I love it. There should be lots and lots of fic. One day I may write some. Maybe. Because there should be some.

G - Garrity & Garrity (A 4400 Spin-Off)
Agent Jed Garrity, meet Agent Jed Garrity! Despite the fact that Marco's ability in the 4400 finale was by FAR the best ability EVER on the show (he can do what Hiro can do - but without the constipation face! Win/win!), Garrity's was seriously the funniest. And come on, no bad can come of having TWO Kavan Smiths! So in my head, if the show carried on, Marco would be teleporting all over the world (having gotten a HUGE raise and way better working conditions that do not involve standing in front of a projector all day that makes it difficult for people to make icons from the caps! Ahem.) and Garrity would seriously be running the joint. He doesn't have such great history with partners, but two versions of himself, he can't lose! It'll freak out suspects, he can sneak up on one from behind while the other version is talking to the guy from in front. It'd be like identical twins except even cooler! I just can't stop imagining the possibilites. I mean, he'd totally use it to his advantage when it comes to things like dating, too. Because he's technically the same person, so the way I see it, he would have all the memories and knowledge in both copies. So he could literally date two people at the same time without any consequences. Garrity #1 could go on one date, Garrity #2 could go on the other and they'd both know exactly what the other one had done! It's completely foolproof!

Well, until he gets spotted somewhere else with the wrong girl, but hey, it's not called the Garrity & Garrity show for nothing! There has to be hijinx to ensue from this situation. It would be so awesome.

H - How I Met Your Mother (onmycrew)
HIMYM. What is there I can even SAY about HIMYM? It's the best comedy, I would say "on the air", but I think I'd go further than that. It's funnier (consistently) than Friends (and I loved Friends), it's even funnier than Scrubs most of the time and I've been Scrubs' biggest champion since day 1. While I started watching the show because Alyson Hannigan was in it, she's now my least favourite thing about it - and that sounds really harsh, like I don't like her in it - that's not the cast, but there's just SO MUCH to love about everything that she comes a ways down the list now! The catchphrases, the in jokes, the references, Robin Sparkles, the freaking SLAP BET, heck, even the goat (since I read what Carter said at the Emmy thing, I have faith that's totally going to be awesome). Britney Spears, I could take or leave, but she didn't ruin my show.

It's just so totally quotable. There was a meme a while back (the top five one, I think) where I had to name my top HIMYM moments, and I just couldn't! It was too hard to pick moments, I can't even pick favourite EPISODES. But so much of this show has worked its way into my life, from the things that people say, to the lemon law and various other bits and pieces. I don't know what I'll do with myself when this show finally ends!

I mean, the damn show ended season two HALFWAY THROUGH A WORD when they didn't even know if they'd be back! That's just ballsy, and awesome in so many ways. I love it.

And it's the only show in the world I would sacrifice sleep for. I get up at 4.30 in the morning to watch this air live (West Coast time) using the TVUplayer feed of CBS, and I'm shattered the next day, but I'll do it every time because it's HIMYM and I have to see it as soon as I possibly can! It's HIMYM.

And I love it.

I - Irn Bru (naughtyelf)
I picked this one for myself because I wasn't taken yet. I love Irn Bru. I have been known to drink litre upon litre of the stuff in a single weekend. And it doesn't turn my pee orange, as you might expect, it turns it transparent! Crazy! It's fizzy, and bright orange, and utterly unexplainable when people ask what it is or what it tastes of. The only thing you can say is it's made in Scotland from Girders, and that's insane but makes total sense to anybody who's seen the old adverts!

Plus, the Christmas advert they do is awesome. With The Snowman and the little boy. I have the video on my phone and my iPod. I love it. "We're walking in the air, I'm sipping on an Irn Bru. My chilly Snowman mate says he would like some too. I tell him, "get your own", he looks like he is going to cry. I tell him once again, "The Irn Bru is mine." ....I'm falling through the air. I wonder where I'm going to land. He nicked my Irn Bru, and let go of my hand...."

J - Jonathan Woodward (almarsare)
Now I REALLY don't know where to start when it comes to talking about Jonathan. There's honestly too much I could say. I've met him twelve times in total, at various events over the last three and a half years (since I first encountered him on Halloween 2004). Never has my opinion changed of one person so much in such a short space of time as that first con. I'm a huge Wes/Fred fan, that's not a secret. I hated Knox a ridiculous amount. He called Fred "it" when talking to Gunn about the whole Illyria thing, and I was watching that downloaded on my laptop. I threw a ham sandwich at my laptop screen because of him. So I was a bit m'eh about the idea of meeting Jonathan. By Saturday morning he'd won me over, and I bought a photo ticket for Sunday. Of course, he ended up wearing a polo neck jumper on Sunday and I hate polo necks, but never mind! The funniest thing to me, looking back on it and knowing Jonathan as he is now, is that in that photo shoot he was posing while I was in the queue and I distinctly remember him saying "I don't know what to do! I'm not good at having my picture taken!" He was so whiny and it was cute. Cut to now, and you can't STOP him having his picture taken!

The first Communion was that weekend. He and David Denman auctioned off so much shit - from signed grapes and biscuits to dances with Nathan Fillion and Christian Kane - and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

The Jaffa Cake thing started at Not Fade Away in May 2006, when fray101 gave him some to make up for the "it tastes like licking a corpse!!" reaction he'd had when forced to try a Twiglet. It worked. He was addicted. I gave him a full tube the following Monday night at a Kane concert, and Hilary or I have given him more every time we've seen him since. In Glasgow we presented him with the Ultimate Jaffa Basket. We gathered every Jaffa Cake product that we could find - tubes and boxes, mini ones, mini-mini ones, cake bars and muffins. His reaction was absolutely priceless - he crouched down on the floor, supremely overwhelmed, and then said "I think I just came in my pants!"! This year, I managed to get my hands on a yard long tube to give to him. I really don’t think there’s anywhere to go from there! Sitting next to him at dinner one night on the Browncoat Cruise is one of my favourite memories of all time. He made me laugh so much I completely forgot about my very sunburnt back, I was put in charge of his knife by the waiting staff. He tried to steal my food, multiple times, because it looked better than what he’d ordered, and I managed to snag some tiramisu off his plate when he wasn’t looking because I’d finished my dessert. Then I did it again and this time he saw, and he laughed and cut a chunk off to give me.

Also gotta love the couple of hours Jaina and I spent with him at Pegasus 3. I think he was as glad to see Jaina and me as we were to see him (he was a bonus guest and he and I both hate Stargate, apparently - in fact, I think his hatred was stronger than mine, I just don't really care either way but he seemed to really dislike it - and he was the guest!), and he spent a large portion of the afternoon hanging out with us just outside the main hall in the hotel. A week later, I saw him in Bristol, and the first thing he did was ask if I’d dyed my hair since the previous weekend. I had! He was very pleased with himself, it was adorable.

I haven't even touched on half the things I love about him, or a quarter of the memorable quotes/moments he's given me, but I think I'd better stop now. Suffice to say, I heart Jonathan Woodward.

And he owes me a jar of his Homemade Kumquat Marmalade.

I'm so never getting that, am I?

K - Kitty Walker (almarsare)
I really like Brothers & Sisters a lot. Not an insanely obsessive amount, I don't download it, I watch it on Channel 4, but I do really enjoy it. The first season I remember thinking was a bit dull in places, but I'm really enjoying it now! I never watched Ally McBeal and I'm not the world's biggest Calista Flockhart fan, but I love Kitty. I didn't used to - I think once upon a time she would have been my least favourite character, and I don't even know why. I think it might be her relationship with Rob Lowe that has made me love her more. She's just so cute! Despite the fact that her character is all about the politics and I never have a clue what the frak she's talking about, it doesn't spoil my enjoyment! It possibly makes me love her even more, actually, because she's clearly totally involved in it and believes in it, which is the most important thing!

Sally Field pisses me off in it, though. She's too meddlesome!!

L - Leah Cairns (almarsare)
Leah! Leah is so awesome. I don't like Battlestar Galactica (in the slightest. Though I have tried/am trying! I've seen eight whole episodes now! Mark Sheppard owesme $15 though because I still think it's rubbish.) but I adore Leah. When Serenity Complete turned into a con for a show I don't watch, I was both annoyed and pleased (less money to spend!) but despite the fact Leah was the only one I spent any money on (oh wait, that's not true, I got a 10x8 from Jamie so that the only having the con book didn't look as lame) they were all fab! Leah, though, just kicks ass. At the Meet & Greet, fallen_wiccan steered the conversation to HIMYM (mostly to get me off a Ricky Gervais rant that was brewing after Leah talked about liking the Office) and she told us that Cobie is one of her best friends.

Cue serious fangirling from the entire table (the ones who were left, anyway). We talked about how awesome the show is and told her to frigging well bring Cobie over some time, and to please tell Cobie how much we adore the show, which she promised to do. On Facebook!

Then there was the whole thing in the auto line where she called Almar back over to tell her about the fact Cobie was almost Kate in Lost, and was down to the last two with Evangeline. When we got up, we told her that we can't stop picturing Evangeline as Robin now, because if Cobie had been Kate, who knows! And Leah told us that Cobie was the only person they EVER wanted to play Robin, all through the auditions. Which was totally awesome to hear. She loved my Lets Go To The Mall t-shirt and made me turn around so she could read the tour dates. Apparently the fictional tour that Glarkware made up goes through both Cobie and Leah's home towns! And then she signed my 10x8 "from one HIMYM fan to another."

She also signed Alison's picture telling her to frakking watch HIMYM, which was hilarious. And true! She needs to frakking watch it!

So I love Leah. Lots.

M - Mal/Simon (onmycrew)
The last one for this post - Mal/Simon. While Cordelia/Giles was the first couple Shirley and I ever RPed, Mal/Simon was the biggest soul eating one. It all started when I went to see the movie like 30 times in the cinema in a two week stretch, and I realised all the Mal/Simon subtext that was there. So I wrote a fic, an epic fic as it were, where the subtext all became text.

And it totally worked! It converted Shirley at least, and we started an RP not long after that. It lasted nearly two years, and technically isn't over (Kaylee's in the middle of her wedding and we just haven't picked up in a whole) - it got bigger and bigger and ended up involving the whole crew. The amount of heartbreak, tears, illness, amnesia, cheating, yelling, and god knows what else we crammed into those two years (though it was longer than that for them, obviously) was just freaking insane. But we loved it! It was so detailed and we were so careful with continuity. And they're such an awesome couple! Of course now (well, not that I write much fic these days but if I did) I have problems writing them so that they're actual Mal and Simon and not Mal-and-Simon the way we made them be, over that time when we made them evolve into something, well, totally out of character from what we saw in the series, but not remotely out of character if you knew the way they had grown and why!

I love them. I love a lot of things, it would seem.

Rest of the alphabet to come soon - and the letter Y is still claimable if anybody has any bright ideas!!
