as a word of warning from when max used to have this problem, virgin dont like texts with symbols at the begining or end :P it just send a blank message then
Rach, I know this is kind of an out there question, but I know you work at a European hotel and it's for a story where my characters are in a European hotel, so . . . I was hoping you might be able to help me out.
If a guest needed to call America from a hotel phone -- let's say this is a fairly nice hotel, if that helps you at all -- what would they have to do? Like, how would they dial, and where would the instructions be?
Seriously, if you don't know, don't go through any trouble to find out, but if you do know, I'd be super super grateful for you help.
Okay, well. In MY hotel, you wouldn't be able to, because our phone system is the SUCK. Hee!
But I've stayed in enough hotels (yay conventions!) and got bored enough that I always read the bumf that comes in the room, so I can help!
If it's a nice hotel, they would have taken a credit card from the guest on arrival and put a pre-authorisation charge on it, so that anything used in the room is charged to the card. There'd be a little folder on the desk with hotel information, how to call reception, a room service menu, how the TV works, various things like that, and a little card for the phone with the international dialling codes.
To call America you dial 001 before the number that you would normally call. Some hotels might also require you to dial 9 to get an outside line.
