Finally getting round to doing this! My holiday! Under a cut and picture heavy, although I thumbnailed where possible :D I'll try not to be too long winded :D
So, Thursday night, we all headed towards the station and found ourselves a train bound for Newcastle. It arrived pretty much on time...or possibly it was late. I think actually it was half an hour late, but 'cause we just turned up and jumped on one, it was exactly the right time for us :D
It got stuck somewhere before Thirsk, and basically, long story short, took around an hour longer than it should have. We finally reached Newcastle and got a Metro to Sunderland, luckily we all managed to get seats. Woo. Everyone bought train tickets as far as Sunderland from York so it would cover them on the Metro, except me, 'cause I have a Metro pass, and Bry, because she has free rail travel. This pass doesn't cover HER on the Metro, though, so she had to buy a Metro ticket...at which point some hilarity ensued...
We got to Sunderland at last, dumped our stuff in my room, and I reconnected the TV/DVD player/tuned in the VCR. We went to the fish and chip shop, came back, sat around, watched Anchorman and put on our PJs. It was a lazy chatty night.
I took this picture of my friends arses while they were looking at photos on my laptop. I like it. I find it slightly arty.
Then we slept. The next day, we got up, got ourselves sorted, and journeyed forth to the MetroCentre! It shall henceforth be known as the MetroZone, 'cause thats what Jen accidentally called it once when she was drunk, and thats funny. We got there, we were starving, we went to Big Luke's and we "All You Can Eat"ed ourselves. I got EVERYONE's value for money. We all got one plateful, and I think we all went back. However, everyone else got one or two things, and I got a FULL second plateful. Then I finished Jen's icecream. And some of Quinn's. I'm seriously such a pig. "Where in God's Army are you going to put all that food?!" said Jen. I didn't know at the time. It turned out, in my stomach.
Then we shopped. I needed a Serenity premiere dress, and Jen was my outfit shopper co-ordinator person since she didn't have any money of her own to spent. I found a gorgeous one in New Look. For (wait for it) £7. And when I got it to the til? It cost A FIVER! £5! Thats $10! FOR A DRESS!! Anyway. I managed to complete the outfit for the £40 I'd set aside for a dress (shoes, necklace, underwear, earrings, hair dye), and I also bought two vest tops and a white jumper. The shoes, though, MURDERED my feet. I didn't end up wearing them to the premiere because of the pain. But once my ankles have healed, I'll wear them again. Just with adequate protection (ie, plasters) on my feet before there's blood...
Lots of shopping was done after that, and also we went on the rollercoaster! Wheee! The MetroLand rollercoaster hasn't changed at all since I first went on it when I was like, SIX! The signs saying "The NEW rollercoaster!" LIE! Not that I mind. It was hilariously crap, I loved it!
Oh, for those wondering - this is the dress (and also actually the entire outfit, come to think of it!) although my Mum was sitting down when she took this shot, so it's not from the most flattering angle, lmao.
Anyway. Then we got home, and then we went out. A night on the tiles in Sunderland - excellent! First we went to the Ivy, which is my favourite pub in the world, then Brogans, Bud Bigallows and then Vision. Lots of fun was had, not a lot of it can be remembered by any of us, and then we went home. And woke Bry up. Oops :D This is a selection of my fave pics from the night:
Me and Jen in the Ivy. Probably the nicest picture I have of the two of us!
Me, Jen and
youngdavid in Brogans. Love this shot.
Also in Brogans if I remember rightly. Taken by
quinnykins...I love pictures like these :D
Me and
youngdavid - I love this picture despite it looking like I'm trying to stop her from escaping...
Saturday was another fun day. We slept for a long time, then we went to the pub. And watched Sunderland lose on Dutch TV, lmao. Dave came over and watched the match - he was a good laugh :D Hils' face when her, Jen and Bry got back from Music Zone was an absolute picture - she saw my drink wasn't coke, and couldn't believe I was on alcohol after the night before. Seriously though. The footie was shit. I needed it!
We went to Casa Italia for tea, filled ourselves very full, and then lazed around watching DVDs and stuff for the rest of the evening. Great fun!
Sunday was a busy day. We went on a tour bus of Sunderland and South Tyneside, which was great anyway, as well as the fact it took in all my favourite places from when I was little. Marsden Rock, Souter Lighthouse ... *sigh* Fun!
This is Souter Lighthouse, the source of many school trips when I lived in the north east!
We were on it for about two and a half hours, lmao. It was well worth the £4! Other than it was the last bus of the day, so we didn't get to go round past the Stadium of Light due to it, well, not going that far any more. LMAO. I'll go on it on my own sometime, just round past the SoL and off! So we got off on the beach, and played! Got chips first, yum ... but the beach. So much fun! The weather held out, and the water wasn't as cold as expected.
I got some fantastic shots that day, and Hils looks fab in all of them - especially loving this one:
And these:
I'm so pleased with how those pics came out. Great memories! This picture of Hils and Jen totally epitomises the weekend, though!
FUN!!!
Then we went back to the flat, dried off a bit, dropped Bry at the Metro station since she had to go home, and went bowling - where it was well cheap! £2.50 per game! Woo! I won the first game, and Hils won the second, and we generally had a fantastic time :D After that we got a curry (Quinn got Chinese - the benefits of living on a road FILLED with takeaway places!) and stuffed ourselves, before getting all settled and sleeeeping. Ahhh. Such a good holiday, with so many memories!
For the rest of the pictures, since I didn't post them all here, click
this! And watch out for the arty wet-arsed Hils and Jen shot, the one of me looking like I'm just randomly standing with my arms outstretched when really I was pretending to surf on a plank of wood, and the even artier shot of all five of us...in shadow! :D
PHEW! Okay, now on to the Serenity premiere! No spoilers, I promise. :D
After Hils, Jen and Quinn got on a train bound for York, I headed towards Edinburgh. Amazingly, everything was more or less on time, and I got into Edinburgh, got a taxi to the EuroHostel (despite my driver not knowing where I meant...) and got all checked in. I was about to get changed when Kev texted to say he was downstairs, so I went to say hi, then when he and Andy left to go to the Hostel's other site, I got changed (while watching Out of Gas on my laptop to make me feel in the mood - not that I wasn't already!). Kev then texted to say they were in a particular pub near the cinema, so I got one of the girls downstairs to call me a taxi and went over. And then hung around for like, four hours. It was a bit cold! By the time I actually went to stand at the red carpet, there wasn't much room at the barriers, but I made some new friends and hung around with them, which was fun :D
When the cars arrived, they stopped right in front of us when they were waiting to pull up to the doorway, which was awesome. 'Cause although the windows were blacked out, we'd seen who was in the cars through the windscreen, so when Joss and Summer's car was parked right in-friggin-front of me, I knew! :D Woo! We didn't hang around to try and get autographs because the crowd was a bit wild and we didn't think we were going to be able to push through, and also we didn't think they were going to sign. We got in the queue, and finally ended up in the cinema. Our seats were the row before the back (the only four we could find together) which was an awesome view for the film, although not so fantastic for the Q&A afterwards.
The Q&A was great - Nathan did the dance of joy because Joss couldn't due to his knee surgery, Adam sang Jayne's song, and we all sang the theme tune. Someone ...damn, I almost wrote spoilers there, completely forgetting they were spoilers! Heh! *stops*
Went back to the hotel right after and went to bed. My two new friends, the lovely Irish girls, let me share the taxi that
skidachu had called for them and didn't even ask for any money. They're great!
The next day I went off wandering round Edinburgh, and ended up walking to the cinema for the Joss talk, when I finally found it. That was also fantastic, getting to hear the man speak! Met up with
_helygen_ in the queue and then again afterwards for pizza. I told her that I'd seen the Serenity trailer on a big screen in festival square on my way past, so when we were walking back to the station we stood and watched for a while, but no dice. Ahh well. I was so giddy when I saw it! I realised it was a film festival screen, and thought "Huh, wouldn't it be cool if..." just as the trailer started. It was AWESOME! I stopped to watch, but I was across the road and buses kept getting in the way. Booo to the buses!
These are the few Joss pics I bothered to take...
Theeeen, on Wednesday morning I checked out, headed to the station, got on a train and zoomed back to York. I got in just before twelve, waited til half 12 for a Coastliner, and headed home. I stopped off in the deli to get the house keys, popped in home, checked my emails, got changed, and went back out again to meet
youngdavid at the station to go to Manchester and see Serenity again! And the good news? SHE LOVED IT! WOOOO! :D Adam and Gina came to our screening and chatted afterwards, which was great. I was a little gutted when I got home and heard that Nathan and Morena had been signing at Birmingham and Adam & Gina didn't do a signing, but felt better the next day when I discovered that it hadn't been a scheduled signing, they were mobbed when Nathan was waiting for Morena to come out of the loo! *g*
Hils stayed at mine since we had to get a taxi home from York station, having well missed the last bus. She slept in my bed, and I slept in Mam & Dads (they WEREN'T in it, FYI! ;)) 'cause I had to go to work EARLY on Thursday because my boss wanted to take me off to another Travelodge to work there. I was knackered, but I've gotta say...I LOVE South Cave Travelodge! Its so quiet and CUTE! Eh. And so ends my hectic holiday week! Although I haven't talked much about Leeds Festival yet...I might do a festival entry sometime this week, if I can be bothered...although my very tired entry last night kinda summed it up, lmao!
