Well, I suppose this might serve as a warning to anyone wishing to marry in the near future. Think you, being inextricably linked to someone for the rest of your life! Their disappointing behaviour will be yours to bear, forever and ever until Judgement Day, amen.

Tis even worse on the Barge.

How tragic, to choose to be linked to such a reprehensible man.

[NOT LIKE SHE'D KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. NOPE.]

What cheer, Amanda. Are you married?

I guess you could say that, although it's in a manner beyond conventional understanding of the term.

Oh, aye? Is it a man? Do you love them dearly? In memory alone, can thinking of them brighten your day or lift your spirits?

A concept, actually.

My father and mother are the ones whose memories I cherish.

Then perhaps it is possible for you to understand this.

These people that you cherish, you know they are people still, aye? And mortal men and women have faults, though the mark of love is looking past those faults and seeing all the good and wondrous things they have to offer the world and to you. You see not those fault, though they still exist, or if you do see them you have come to accept them.

But because you love them so, when they disappoint you the hurt is all the more apparent, all the more devastating. Perhaps those you love have not disappointed you in some way, but can you imagine if they ever did?

They never would.

[Trying to talk rationally about John and Jill, Angelica? Even in an abstract way? Amanda will have none of that!]

You can't compare them to your bastard of a husband.

Cease this, madam. I will not give you what you want. If you wish to have a civil conversation with me, then so be it, we shall converse and perhaps reach some mutual understanding.

But if you have come here simply to take joy in my misery, well, you can just as easily do that from afar.

I shall say good-day to you. Go catch a shooting star. [aka, 17th century slang for 'kindly fuck off'.]
