Well, I suppose this might serve as a warning to anyone wishing to marry in the near future. Think you, being inextricably linked to someone for the rest of your life! Their disappointing behaviour will be yours to bear, forever and ever until Judgement Day, amen.

Tis even worse on the Barge.

[By that particular point in time, Angelica was already throwing things across the room. Her husband had just confirmed it all, and his apology had done nothing to soothe that building anger about the whole situation. Now, now the Barge would hear it all, and all she wanted to do was forget and heal!

She picked up and teacup and hurled it into the door, not realising that Howie decided to come visit at that particular moment in time. Thank God the door was close.]

Neil? Neil, come in. Careful, there are shards of porcelain on the floor.

[At first she thought that Howie had come to hear for himself what had happened. She fully expected him to lead the charge against her husband and bring him to justice, and so she turned her back on him and walked towards the the table to "tidy up".]

Nay, sir, I do not want tea, nor do I want to drink away my sorrows. I am too furious to wallow yet.

[Angelica was sceptical of his intentions right until the point that Howie told her outright that he had not come to interrogate her. She stopped tidying up pamphlets and letters and stooped down towards the floor to help him pick up the mess she had made.]

I am not all right, Neil. Not at all.

[Angelica tried picking up the smaller shards without cutting her finger, pinching them carefully between her forefinger and her thumb and dropping them into her bundled skirt. She was frowning, looking as though all her concentration was on this task and not what her husband had done.]

That he would do this to me in the first place. Why...if he had just spoken to me, and stayed with me, then his guilt would have faded and I would have been comforted.

I certainly think he did. [She got to her feet and went to fetch the brush and pan, opening one of the hidden panels in the wall to retrieve them. Angelica dumped what shards she had sitting into her skirts in the pan itself, then handed it out for Howie to take.]

Aye, guilt. I...you know, I tire of talking about it already.

I said all that was needed to Edward Sexby. [And she knew that was his real punishment. Whatever the other wardens decided to do couldn't match up to what she had said to her husband.

Angelica stared at the bottle on the mantle, then scooped it up and began to open it.]

What shall we talk about?

[Angelica took a swig straight from the bottle, then handed it to Neil as the alcohol burned its way down into her stomach. She sighed, hating herself for being such a mess.]

Are you truly? That is a wonderful idea.

[Angelica didn't take any notice at all at his discomfort, though did eventually remember her manners and went to find them both two drinking cups....while sneaking another sip or two from the bottle.]

You needed time, Neil. It would have been terrible for you to have taken on that responsibility in the state you were in, but I am very glad that now you are able to consider it again.

[She poured a bit into a cup for them both, then bade him follow her into her bed chamber. She really didn't want to sit in the hall any more.]
