Though the things I said as a child reflected heavily on the time, as I am certain many of you are aware the year for me was 1630, or surmised the era from speaking to me, I feel I must reiterate that certain beliefs of mine are much changed ( Read more... )

I don't think anyone would suspect you of believing those things as a grown woman.

I could not be certain, for I was quite adamant and self-assured as a child. Best to clear the air, as it were, for one never can be too sure what others may believe.

True enough.

Are you well, madam? It seems a long time since we have spoken.

[He's...going to stick with 'madam' until she invites him to call her anything else. It just seems like the sort of courtesy she'd be used to.]

It does, does it not? I am better than I was yesterday, and even better than I was the week before, though still fairly out of sorts than is typical for me.

And how do you fare, Iroh? [And there's his invitation. c:]

A little out of sorts myself, I must confess. [Iroh admitting to being anything other than fine? The sky is falling.] But it lessens, the further we travel from those waters that brought the flood.

I am sorry to hear that, my friend. I cannot think of many people who would wish to relive their childhood.

I agree though, in that further we are from the experience, the better we will feel. It was not pleasant having to face once more all those things we had time to distance ourselves from as we aged.

It is not my own experiences that worry me, so much as mine being an upbringing that was repeated over generations.

Truthfully, I had forgotten how passionately I believed in the tyranny of our rulers and the atrocities they committed - or, perhaps, how successfully I was blinded to those things. Now, my niece is on board this ship; however adamant and self-assured I was at her age, she is a hundredfold.

I knew not that you had family here! Oh, I should have been paying better attention.

That is troubling, Iroh. She may seem like a reflection of who you once were and how you once thought, but perhaps there is also some reassurance to be had in her appearance on the Barge. She is here to change, just as you did for your own sake, and so she can.

...Thank you, Angelica.

It is the fact that she is not my reflection that troubles me. She is more single-minded in her devotion than I was even at my worst. But I do believe that she can be helped here. I have always believed in second chances. And I am grateful that she has been brought here before her spirit is broken by the consequences of her actions.

Her name is Azula. I...would recommend caution, if you ever have cause to meet.

Aye, well, I always consider the Barge a place for special cases. Those who are capable of changing on their own are usually not the ones brought here.

I wish her warden well, whoever they may be, and I wish you peace whilst she is aboard, for this must be a difficult matter.

I assume Azula is also gifted with the ability to manipulate fire?

Yes. She is a prodigy the likes of which have not been seen for many years. I can only assume the Admiral has limited her ability...if he hadn't, the hallways would be a great deal more scorched and the Infirmary a great deal busier.

That is a very fair assumption. I shall be sure to exercise caution should I cross paths with her.

Thank you.

And thank you, as well, for listening. No young woman with other things to trouble her should be subjected to the rambling of an old man. Forgive me?

Iroh, my dear friend, there is nothing to forgive.

But you are quite welcome.
