Only one day late! We're getting there, peeps. Maybe one day we'll be more regular and time our lives a bit better. In any case, I must admit this was my fault (Naty) since we were going to get together yesterday but ended up not doing so, thanks to my messed up timetable and fucked-up memory.
In any case, we come here with a topic that was prompted to us by the lovely people from #Innercircle (thank you so much, guys!), which is non-traditional relationships and sexual orientations in the media. Without further ado, we hope you enjoy this month's TTOTM. :)
Naty - Well, the first thing I thought about when I got this prompt was "polyamory, bisexuality, transgenders." These are only three of the huge ammount of relationships, sexualities, identities, that we rarely get to see when we turn on the TV or go to the movies, or even turn on the radio or pick up a book.
Polyamory, I've been informed, has been perfectly reflected in the movie Savages, with Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, and Aaron Johnson. I'm sad to say I haven't been able to watch it yet, but dea
rycolfan as recommended it to me in more than one ocassion.
If I come to think of it, I haven't seen a successful polyamorous relationship on Argentinian television in WAY too long. are often confused (especially by ignorant writers and producers, apparently) with infidelity in a relationship. The only thing I can think of, which remotly comes close to polyamory, is "Dos más dos". Yet, I'm well aware that swingers and polyamorous relationships are completely differnt from one another. So no. I cannot think of one example that portrays a polyamorous relationship.
As for bisexuality, I see that the media has an image that we bisexuals are actually promiscous devils obsessed with getting laid. No. Bisexuality implies we can be attracted to both male and female people, in spite of their gender.
And last but not least, trasvestism and transgenders. One of our Argentinian sweethearts is, in fact, a transvestite. Her name is Flor de la V, and she is one of the most classy, glamorous, and lovely people I've ever seen in the Argentinian screens. She is now married and has adopted two kids with her husband.
All in all, however, the media tends to picture either homo or heterosexual relationships and treat polygamy as infidelity, and believe bisexuality is just about lust... I believe it's high time we change that, don't you, peeps? We need a more diverse media, and maybe then we will have a more accepting society.
I'm looking at you, Hollywood! We want more diversity, equality, and love in spite of labels.
I look forward the day we go to the movies and none of this is as unheard of as it is now. I hope one day everyone will realise that, all in all, love is love. And love respects no boundaries.
Euge: Damn, I havent seen an Argentinan film/series on poliamory like EVER. I've only seen a CQC (a TV show that investigates things about "current issues") report on polyamory that was extremelly ridiculling towards the poor couples that had the guts to appear there, in spite of the social stigma. It infuriated me, becuase the guy who did the interviews just didn't seem to take seriouly the way those people chose to love, because that's after all what your sexuality it comes down to.
As for bisexuality, I have always believed that everyone is bisexual deep down, some just don't know it yet. I think what older people here think about it is that now everyone is coming out as gay or bisexuals (which isn't even true) because it's in (which is also a lie). The thing I would tell each and everyone of them is that yeah, there are more people coming out these days because we don't live under a freaking military administration, like they used to in the 60's and 70's when they were growning up. It must have been really difficult for people who felt that way back then, because I think I wouldn't be able to stand living in secret, being forced to marry someone I don't love and will never love just to cover things up, and being looked down on by the people who knew, if I managed to gather up the courage to tell someone. One of the 10 million reasons that military administrations sucked.
For you guys out there to have a sense on how sick the realtionship between Argentinian media and sexuality is, the first time they adressed seriously transexuality was 2 years ago when a transexual called Alejandro entered Big Brother. Yeah, I know...
Also homosexuality is sort of unspoken of in the media, exept for an exentric millionaire called Ricardo Fort that finally came out last year, after being in the media for like a decade. He even held some American Idol-like auditions to find a girlfriend when he was in the closet so nobody would suspect. Are we so affraid to accept ourselves? Let's love ourselves for who we are! I believe people out there are becomeing more and more acepting towards the different sexualities, which makes me glad, and the media is just a reflection of how we think as a society, altough we still need to go a long way. I would like to hear more about asexuals, pansexuals and poliamory, and even about homosexuality and bisexuality, but with the due respect that each and every human being deserves!
Naty - Just a short side-note to state how I can't get over the fact just how amazing and open-minded my best friend truly is. Quite a catch, aye? ^_^ ♥
Thanks for reading us once again, and we hope maybe next time we will be posting in time! We always try our best, but we don't always succeed. Sorry peeps!
