A few short thoughts....
It's been about a week now since I got back from Kairos. So far I'm pretty pleased with the way things have been going in my life since then. Generally change comes slowly over time; however, a few aspects have already improved quickly and seem to be continuing in a very positive direction. Deo gratias!
Ash Wednesday is the day after tomorrow. Lent is both tough and beautiful, much like the desert where Christ was tempted for forty days. The pentitential practices we undertake strengthen our willpower and diminish attachment to the things of the world. As our habitual distractions fall away, we see with renewed clarity the beauty that we were too preoccupied and absorbed to appreciate: the presence of God all around us. The opportunities for spiritual growth during Lent are limitless. I hope everyone takes advantage of this time.
Like Lent, The Passion of the Christ is nearly upon us after much anticipation! I'll be seeing it Wednesday night. Father Paul is also coordinating a group to see the movie next weekend together with a group from a local synagouge. Afterwards there'll be discussion on the portrayal of the Jews in the film and what Catholicism and Judaism each teach concerning Jesus' death. I know that Christ's death is mentioned in some Talmudic texts, but I'm not sure what they say. It should be an interesting dialouge. Father is the head of ecumenical affairs for the Archdiocese, so he's a good authority on this kind of stuff.
My college counseling situation is sort of funny at the moment. I wasn't listed for any of the planning groups, so for three weeks or so I didn't bother doing anything about it. Last week I just decided to show up for one of the meetings. I guess I'll stick with that particular group from now on. Of course, I still have no materials nor have I done any of the work we're supposed to be doing. I'll try to get caught up later this week since we don't seem to have too much HW so far. I was hoping to visit Steubenville over spring break, but the snow has caused most of our break to be cancelled.
The basketball tournament starts on Friday. Ours is the longest running high school basketball tournament in the country. We're looking to bring home the championship for the second year in a row. Go Panthers!
Remember, man, thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return.
