Global Human Rights Torch Relay - Tucsonans will come together to raise awareness of China's human rights abuses before the 2008 Olympics and urge positive change by the Chinese regime. There will be a torch relay, a torch walk, a torch ceremony, speakers, musicians, informational displays and petitions. Hosting the Olympics is an honor few nations are granted. China was awarded the honor of hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics-with the provision that it would improve its human rights record ahead of the Games. According to Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, Reporters Without Borders, and the UN, the Chinese government has increased its human rights abuses considerably. We believe this effort can save lives, and invite all to join us.Gather at Soccer Field for 3 mile walk on Walkway. Gathering with Torch Ceremony, musicians, speakers and displays at Ramada #5 and surrounding area. Walk begins at 8:00 a.m. Gathering from 9:00 a.m. to noon. 8 am - 12 pm. Reid Park.
