BIG ONE!!!;)

Jan 17, 2006 16:01

Ok so due to time limitations and such, this is copied and pasted from a mass email I sent out. So if I don't have your email addy and such, at least some can read how my magical day happened! :) So here it is!!!!

Hey everyone! Well, this is a few days overdue, but time slipped away with being caught up in all the exciting plans. It didn't help that I got sick on Sunday and didn't feel like doing ANYTHING until today. But anyway, those of you who still don't know (or know the details at least); I AM OFFICIALLY GETTING MARRIED!!!!! :) Roger TOTALLY Surprised me on Saturday, January 14, 2006 around noonish, and proposed to me at the windy, snow swept pavilion of Mendon Ponds. Obviously I said yes, hehe, and am now wearing a beautiful ring that has been in his family for 100 years. I will tell that part of the story later, but first, HOW it happened! :)

Well, it all really began shortly after Christmas when Roger confessed that he had wanted to propose to me at Christmas. He wanted to come to my parents' house and surprise me with the ring there. But the ring, which was having the family diamond put into a new setting, wasn't ready in time. So the guy gave him a gift certificate (oooh, future jewlery for me, hehe) and apologized for it not being ready in time. Roger decided to tell me since he thought I MIGHT have been expecting the proposal and didn't want me all worried and wondering why it didn't happen. WEll he was right, but yet, where I was fine before, I was now going crazy wondering when he would do it and how long he would make me wait!!!! I guess three weeks wasn't so bad. ;)

So I was all on high alert wondering when he would do it and hoping he wouldn't wait till Valentine's Day. I didn't want him to wait that long! I was all suspicious of my family (yes, mom, dad, and Miss, I kept my eye on you all thinking you all knew something! I was convinced you did, although you knew nothing!), and overanalyzed everything. Roger went to NJ on Tuesday of last week to help a friend build a chimney. My boss at work was convinced he wasn't really there, but was planning a surprise! ;) I wondered too. When Friday came, I was convinced he would show up at Gram's that night and surprise me! No such luck, in fact, he didn't even call. HE usually called me every morning and evening, so I knew something was up. When Saturday morning came and still no word, I was worried something went wrong. I called his cell and left him a message. At about 8:30 am my friend Emily called and said her husband was working. She was lonely and wanted to catch up with me. I was thrilled. I figured this could be a good diversion too, to get my mind of Roger and to help cheer me up. Those of you who really know me, know i'm not a patient person. ;)

Emily came up at about 10:30 and we yacked for a bit and she told me her husband didn't know she left yet and would probably call. Sure enough he did and she informed him of our crazy plan. She had suggested a trip to Mendon Ponds for a winter picnic and to go deer watching. By the way, it was windy, cold, and heavily snowing, and yet, somehow Emily knew I was crazy enough to still go outside! Hey, i'll take any chance to get outdoors! :) My friends and my man really know me! So Josh made fun of us I guess and told Emily we should go swimming in the pond while we were at it. Emily suggested we head to the pavilion by the water and take pics of us by the water just for Josh. I totally and eagerly agreed. I drove us to the park and eagerly and ignorantly looked for deer. Eventually we got to the pavilion and nobody else was there of course. Or so I thought! We walked up the pavilion and I noticed a dozen beautiful roses on the bench. I told Emily how sad it was that someone left their roses there. I wondered how a girl could just forget her roses! Emily agreed and played the part BEAUTIFULLY! Then I turned and saw a Bible on the bench. It was one of those read the Bible in a year books that Roger and I had gotten for free at the Boston youth convention we went to. I looked at it and told Emily that it was pretty cool someone in this area was reading that Bible too! I really was completely oblivious! Emily smoothly transitioned into asking me how the convention was and I babbled away until I saw the top of a dark head sticking up over the side of the pavilion wall. I instantly shut up and thought Emily and I were surely interrupting some romantic thing and started to embarassingly walk away. The head stood up and became a man in a tux, who became Roger! I couldn't believe it, and was SO shocked! I just stood there and apparently said "what are you doing here" but don't remember that. I guess I was still thinking it was somehow a stranger that looked just like Roger! He walked over to me and then he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him, pulling out the little box with a BEAUITUL ( and BIG) Diamond ring. Well the shock wore off enough for me to say "yes of course" and then I hugged him and kept saying "it's you, you're really here!" Then I pulled back and said "oh yeah, you can put my ring on my finger now" and he tried to put it on, but was shaking so hard I had to help him. Aww, I thought that was so cute, to see that it mattered to him so much and so he was nervous and cared so much! Plus it was a little cold, hehe ;) So then we hugged and he twirled me and just laughed and kissed, and then I realized Emily was gone and wondered where she went. At that time Josh had pulled up with Roger's car and they were taking off. We hailed them down so we could hug them and share it with them. We ended up going out to lunch at the good ol' diner (I was so happy and could barely think, much less of any other place to eat at!), since poor Roger was starving. He hadn't eaten since lunch the day before! So we got there and were laughing and enjoying the whole story, and congradulating Emily on her superb acting skills! She totally had me fooled and how well they pulled it off left me completely oblivious! I was amazed!

Ruth the owner was there and wondered, as i'm sure everyone else there, why Roger was the only one in a tux. I told her and she was excited. We enjoyed our lunch, then went back to Gram's so Em could get her car. She took pics of us and Gram was all confused and never really comprehended what we were doing. Then they took off and Roger and I made some calls, he took a nap, and we excitedly talked tentative plans and kept calling each other "fiance"! ;)

Roger had gone to NJ last week with his tux, knowing he wanted to propose to me the following weekend, but he did not know HOW he would surprise me. As the week wound down and the chimney wasn't done, he worried if he'd get to my place at all! His friends told him to just go and get engaged so he went to Josh and Em's late Friday night and didn't want to call me and have to lie! I thought that was sweet. ;) As of Saturday morning, he still didn't know what he would do, but Emily called me and he originally was going to come and surprise me at Gram's. Well somehow, that didn't sound quite as romantic as say, my favorite park, hehe. So luckily plans changed and he succeeded in giving me the perfect proposal, with the help of our awesome friends Josh and Emily. They have played a vital role throughout our relationship! Without them, we probably wouldn't be together, being the two pansies that we are, hehe. ;) Thank goodness for friends who know better!

My ring is beautiful and to make this email still longer, I will tell the story of it. A few months ago, Roger's mom wanted him to ask me if I wanted a diamond that belonged to his Great Grandmother. Well I was thrilled, since I love passing on traditions and history! I never saw the diamond until Saturday. Roger had it put in a new setting and when he took it in to the jeweler, the date was December 11th (or 10th?) 2005. There were the intials of his great grandmother on the old setting as well as the date, which was December 10th (11th?) 1905. Sorry, I might have those dates mixed up, but either way, it was within a day of 100 years!!!! WOW!!!! We thought that was really really neat. Talk about history! I look at this beautiful diamond, and marvel at all it's seen and been through, and WILL go through! It's amazing how things work out. :)

Aaaand that's our story! And now we are trying to figure out where to have the reception and getting tentative guest lists and such. I will definitely be really busy now, with still taking care of Gram, working at RIT, and planning a wedding now! :) Man, it still hasn't totally sunk in. I am SO excited to register for gifts, and to find a place to live, and hopefully pick out the perfect dress! :) I will keep you all posted and any prayers and advice are greatly appreciated! :) I don't know where to begin! I do know that I love Roger and am SSOOO incredibly blessed God gave us each other and that Roger wants to spend his life with me! God is good! :)
