Today in my feminist theory class:

Me: Something about race.
Prof: Uh, that's not relevant right now.
Me: Race is always relevant, especially when a movement calling itself radical is clearly for White, heterosexual, middle-class women.
[silence]
Prof: Anyways...

school, feminism, identity, race, manchester, sociology

It's an interesting class for the most part, even though it's a lot of lecturing about the readings we've already done and not much discussion.

Well, the readings are. And the discussions are interesting.

There isn't.

But when we do have it, it generally is interesting.

but you said the class is interesting for the MOST part, which seems to contradict what you said about the discussions being rare.

because, i figure, if the readings are the most interesting thing about the class, you don't need a class to read. and if the discussions are rare, you don't REALLY need a class to discuss what you read, either. so...that again makes me wonder what is interesting enough about the class to keep you engaged. are the readings and the rare discussions really feeding your intellect the way you need it to be fed?

Well, I see it this way:

I spend more time doing the readings than I do in class, and therefore, with the discussions (let's say they add up to 45-60min/week), the class is interesting for the most part.

Helps me keep from becoming entirely pessimistic.

Then again, I hate going to class anyway. I'd much rather just read and write the papers.
