Two lj posts in two days! Who believes it?
So last night, I decided to be a good girl and go to bed early (11:30), anticipating a nice, restful night of deep sleep before my busy day today.
*cue laughter in the feline community*
There are two things that the cat wakes up for. One is, food. I am convinced that Oklo is mortally offended that she is offered cat food in bowls on the floor. Obviously, she is a human that's unfortunately trapped in a kitty body. So, she naturally assumed that any food that her human pets prepare are for her as well, and if we should do something so careless as to neglect to fix her a plate, she is not above helping herself to one of ours.
The other thing is, turning out the lights and getting in to bed. This is the universal cat signal that it's time to play. After about ten minutes of kitty pouncing on my toes, clawing my butt, and kneading my head, I finally escorted her out of the bedroom and shut the door.
Now, in the past when Katie and Lee have been gone for the night, as they were last night, the cat's been a little tough to deal with. Shoving her paws under the door and waving them around while mewing petulently, crying outside the door, and, on occasion, pounding her little body against the door. All of which are annoying, and occasionally worrisome, but I figured that if I ignored her long enough, she'd get tired and stop.
Not so last night. After, I shit you not, an hour of this nonsense, Oklo finally figured out an angle and velocity with which she could slam into the door and literally bust it open. Literally- a shut, locked, fairly sturdy bedroom door, and the cat lept into it so hard and at such an angle that it flew open and she landed on my stomach, sinking in her claws and yowling.
So of course, I woke up rather suddenly, skipping over the mental stages of "alertness" and "self-defense" to "KILL!!!!"
The cat escaped unscathed, which I can only attribute to her eight remaining lives, and skittered off to the living room. I slammed my door shut and sat, wide awake, in the dark, attempting to calm down and fall back asleep.
Which I did, shortly before the kitty busted through my door AGAIN. And landed on my HEAD.
So the cat took off with the seven lives she had left, and I finally got the bright idea to barricade the door with a box full of books I don't have shelves for yet. Which worked! Except I spent the rest of my night listening to Oklo fling herself repeatedly at the door and yowling, so I would still wake up intermittently and bang on the door to make her stop.
Now that I've had a nap, I have to confess I'm kind of amazed at this cat. I mean, I knew kitties liked attention, but I know of none that have literally busted through doors to play at 3 in the morning.
But she only has two more nights to try doing that, tops. She's already running out of lives.
Naturally logging off.
