Trader Joe's is sketchy. It's owned by the same people who own the discount grocery chain Aldo. It's a damn machine and a very secretive one at that. The owners are German billionaires making a fortune ($8 billion dollars last year) in America. Read up on the chain. There's no way to track down where their food actually comes from which terrifies me.

I refuse to shop there because there's no way to know from where their food comes and I won't eat it if I don't know the source. Buy local. At least Whole Foods carries local items.

Aldi, not Aldo. :)

Oops! Yes, the Aldi grocery store chain. Food, not shoes.

Aldi, and it's owned by the folks who own the German branch of the store, which is very different from the US (Aldi Süd) store. They're completely separate holdings and don't share anything.

Yes, Aldi. I corrected my typo above.

The chain Aldi grocery stores were conceived and run by the same family which took over the small, local, independent Trader Joe's and turned it into the machine (monster) it is today. That's my point.

A fascinating article. Thanks for posting it. It's disappointing, but not surprising.
