Hypoallergen cats?

Jan 29, 2012 09:38

Hi everyone

My husband is allergic to all furry things and has asthma. His asthma is undercontrol for the most part.

We're looking into getting a cat (more like I want a cat and he wishes to grant me my wish) but because of his allergies we have to be extremely careful. I don't want to adopt a cat and then give it back later.

My friend is a very allergic person and bought a Devon Rex, female. With the Siberian and Sphynx, its the hypoallergenic cats. And we were told females have less of the L protein that causes allergies.

Has anyone have any input on this?

I'd rather not have a cat than have my husband on allergie drugs everyday.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your responses and tips. I spoke to my husband about my fears and he said that since we've done a lot of research our best option would be to go with a female Cornish Rex, short hair breed, doesn't lose any hair and that we would put the effort in cleaning more often to avoid allergies as much as possible.

If still available at the breeder, this would be our little Maiden
