Hello, I've been a lurker here for a long time and finally have a question. I looked through all the memories and under "Cold and Flu" but couldn't find anything for a really really sore throat. As others have said, raw honey, especially manuka honey (although it is the most expensive variety, it is the most powerful healer) is amazing for this kind of thing.

I had a very similar problem two years ago and I ended up keeping a spoon and a jar of raw honey next to my bed at night. I tried to ride out the milder pain, but whenever it got too much or if I woke up from the pain, I'd have a few spoonfuls of honey. Swallow it real slowly so it has a chance to sit on the part of your throat that's hurting for a few seconds. It will start to reduce the pain a little.

I did this for four days until it finally hurt too much to sleep. The next day I went to the doctor who prescribed me antibiotics (never did find out whether it was actually a bacterial or viral infection, though. She is a terrible doctor). Although I took them that night, anyway, that day my pain started to drop and I was almost pain-free by night-time. Whatever it was, raw honey got me through it. Gotta love that stuff.

Also drinking green tea may help. I've found it helps with canker sores and the like, so why not other things that resemble open wounds. But I wouldn't put the honey in the tea. And if it doesn't get better after 5 days (or gets worse) I would at least call your doctor if not do your best to actually see them.
