I am SO SICK of the giant groundhogs (that live the woods behind me) ripping up my trash almost every single day from spring to late fall. I bought a new trashcan and the crazy things chewed a hole through the hard plastic big enough to get a paw or head in and rip the trash out through. They're pretty nasty for groundhogs...they fight all hours of the night and scream like nothing you can imagine. Whatever, I live by woods so I'll deal with that. Any recommendations on something I can put in the trashcan to deter them? Please don't suggest metal trashcans, my next door neighbor tried that and they knock the trashcans over hard enough to knock the lid off (which is hard to believe, but these guys have to weigh 20 lbs at least).. if I could find a metal trashcan that's lid snapped on with the special flip up handles, like the plastic one I have, that might work. but I cant find anything like that online and I don't even think they exist.
I'm getting anonymous notes on my front door that I assume are from neighbors across the street (where they don't live close enough to the woods to have the same problem, I guess) suggesting I leave all of my trash inside until trashday. Umm... I dont have a garbage disposal so this is NOT going to work. But I dont blame them for being grossed out.. this is almost a daily thing, and sometimes I dont get home until late from work to clean it up!
So in short, anything that will turn these guys off to my food laced trash?
