I just kicked kidney stones and a bad UTI in a few days using holistic methods. Went to a clinic for follow up, just to be on the safe side, and everything looks normal.
*victory dance*
If anyone out there has suffered with kidney stones and wants to try a natural remedy, this is what I did:
2 oz raw organic apple cider vinegar 2x daily. Just shoot it. It's nasty, but it dissolves the stone. Chase with water. Brush teeth immediately to protect tooth enamel. It HAS to be organic; the other stuff doesn't have the healing properties.
Mix of 2 oz organic lemon juice/2 oz organic olive oil 2 x daily. Shoot it. Make sure to use the organic stuff; you do NOT want to further strain your kidneys with chemicals/pesticides. Chase with water or C juice.
Drank tons of Smartwater brand distilled water. Distilled water detoxifies more than other kinds. Personally, I'm a water snob, probably because I grew up drinking really really really pure mountain water from the tap. Smartwater is actually the only bottled water I like enough to drink that much of.
Added some organic lemon juice to some of the water I drank
Cranberry pills
Organic cranberry juice; the real stuff, which is very bitter and kind of expensive. Read the labels. Food companies are really sneaky about ingrediants these days. Most of the time, even the stuff that SAYS it's real juice isn't real juice. I mixed it with an organic juice mix to make it taste better
Couple berry smoothies
Bladdex (supplement that contains herbs such as Uvi Ursi and marshmellow that are good for UT health)
Vitamins A, E, B complex, C
Chamonile tea with organic lemon juice and organic honey
Garlic
Heating pad-thingy at night for about 20 mins a spot on sore lower back spots. Mine's made of beans - you micowave it to heat it up and it holds the heat for a while.
Dietary; no caffeine, no fat, no processed food. Reduced intake of beloved cheese. Roasted chicken and salmon with lots of asparagus. Apples, onions, ginger, parsley, and celery are also good for this. I never got around to them, though they will all be on the menu for the next few weeks.
My next moves would have been
D-Mannose and alfalfa, but I didn't need them. Didn't get to the coke/asparagus method either.
I felt improvements immediately and continued to improve daily. Had that not been the case, I'd have gone to a clinic sooner, and for urgent care rather than follow up.
I"ll be continuing to use raw organic ACV daily but in smaller doses as it is is a great detoxifier and quite safe. My skin actually looks noticeably better than it did before this whole ordeal, and I'm pretty sure that it's because of the cleansing/detoxifying properties of ACV.
Also, going forward, I'm going to be much nicer to my kidneys and stop dehydrating myself. I was really really really bad about making sure I drank enough water.
This experience did make me realize I needed to find a doctor who knows both schools of medicine. The problem with using a holistic remedy and then going to a real doctor for follow up after, which is what I did, is that if you tell them what you used, they have absolutely no idea what it means. The doctor I saw today seemed very nice and intelligent and attentive, but his eyes went completely blank when I told him about the holistic ACV remedy I used. Today I did manage to find the ONE doctor in town that meets all my criteria, in that he uses holistic and modern medicine, has excellent credentials, and takes my insurance, and I'll be scheduling another follow up with him. Ironically, it turns out his office is right around the corner from me.
I think modern medicine has its place and values, but to me it's a last resort; I'll try natural remedies first.I am really glad I went for the follow up just for the peace of mind. Kidney infections are not something to play around with. I can now really relax for the first time in over a week.
