Dog question... and then a chronic pain question

Hey everyone! I need a little advice. My Lab (of and which I've posted before about) is still having hot spot/allergy issues. I give him fish oil everyday, he's on a grain free diet now, I can't afford an allergy test for him so please don't mention that - trust me if I could spend that money on him I would. Right now I've been putting bag balm on it and wrapping it with vet wrap so he won't chew off his foot. I was wondering what types of products you would suggest for me to use as a topical - so that it's unpleasant for him to lick his leg raw or chew his feet off. I wipe his feet down whenever he comes in... but at night, when everyone is sleeping... he has a fun fest and I wake up to it.

I don't want to buy something like Apple Bitters from the pet store - one because it's very NOT natural and two because he has open sores and it would burn like none other :(

Edit: I forgot to mention that he's on Benadryl. My vet said that one pill is fine but to not increase it because 2 pills would be too much for his weight. :\
