*sigh* so I'm a sucker... we have taken in a 5-6 week old kitten that my fiance's coworker found in a box in a dumpster behind their job. :-( There were 4, three were immediately placed and 1 came home with us this evening. He is quite possibly one of the cutest things I have seen in a long time. :-) ANYWAY, we took him to the vet this evening

They thought our 4 weeks old, found kitten had ring worm, so they put him on antibiotics and a low does of another medicine. Make sure that they check for fleas thoroughly! They diagnosed him incorrectly. When they have extreme itching and balding, they jump right to the conclusion that it is ringworm. I would wash your kitten in regular dawn dish detergent. This will help soothe his skin a little and it will determine if he has fleas (they come out because of the dish soap).
warm water + sudsy kitten + 5 minute wait time + rinse off and wrap in a towel. Give him a heating pad and let him clean himself. It is the best way for them! If he doesn't weigh more than 2lbs, a lot of things can be toxic.
In the meantime, wash your hands thoroughly after handling him and use Borax on your carpets and clothes to insure that it doesn't spread. The vet told me that it is transferable to humans and other animals, but they handle ringworm all day and just washing a lot can prevent spreading.
