Green scratchies.

I like green scratchies (that stuff that sometimes is adhered to the back of sponges). I don't care for sponges so I just get the green scratchy part. I don't use a lot of chemical intervention in my cleaning efforts - green scratchies (and elbow grease) provide oomph to the environmentally sensitive dish soap I use.

I also use green scratchies to scrub my organic, grown in the thighs of virgins vegetables to remove the pristine dewy fresh dirt & grit from their skins. Green scratchies do a great job without leaving behind unsavory chemicals, and I don't have to peel my veggies to enjoy them. I've attempted the same results with a brush without luck. Back to the green scratchie!

All good things must come to an end, however, and eventually no matter how carefully I care for them I need to discard my green scratchies - they are far from compostable or recyclable, so into the landfill they go. My soul aches at the waste. Brillo pads and 40 grit sandpaper, while seemingly more biodegradable, are too extreme; a simple washcloth or brush doesn't achieve the result I seek. What would naturalliving  suggest as a more environmentally sound alternative to green scratchies?

food: preparation, living: green, home: cleaning, home: dishwashing
