I'm not a big fan of the idea of dumping them all in the trash because that doesn't seem environmentally friendly, but what are my other options? I thought about ( Read more... )

Freecycle doesn't allow sale of drugs of any kind, including vitamins:

"KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL & APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. This means, for example, no pornography, alcohol, tobacco, drugs (of any kind, including all medicines, vitamins, creams, etc.), firearms or other weapons. Two strikes and you're out of the group. This is our main Freecycle rule to live by and it's a pretty easy one at that. No advertising your yard sale, please, as you're asking for money and that isn't free."

Some Freecycle lists, esp ones not associated with Freecycle.org, do allow you to offer vitamins and herbal supplements

When my grandfather passed away we donated his medications to a free clinic. There weren't any vitamins in the mix, but, if you have a free clinic near you, they may be interested. It's worth asking, at least.

similar to this. if there isnt a free clinic near by see if any churches near you are doing medical missions. we gave out a lot of vitamins on our medical mission.

If you don't find a new user to your pills, or they are out of date, you can take all the medicines & vitamines & other pills to the pharmacy where they will dispose them. (At least in Scandinavia). I don't think it is good to compost them.

I Freecycle stuff like this or put it on Craigslist. It would be kind of ridiculous to try to sell them, but people are often happy to take them for free. They are treated as food substances byt he FDA so there shouldn't be any issues with giving them away.
