Hello there everyone. I was wondering if I could bother you all for some reputable links on Stevia , sugar, and artificial sweeteners (like why certain ones are bad and even the "controversy" on Stevia itself). As I understood it, Stevia is "healthier" because it is more naturally created/extracted or whatnot than other sugar substitutes, though ( Read more... )

just a pointed comment re: stevia and truvia, and artificial sweeteners...

stevia itself is fine, natural, safe, used for manymany years in other countries that have less stoooopid laws like our FDA has. some *natural* brands (NOW brand, NuNaturals, SweetLeaf, etc) do have more/less licorice taste than others so try a few 'til you find one you like. also, if it's really bitter, you may be using too much. paradoxically, it gets more bitter the more you use, past that certain 'sweet spot'.

that being said, do yourself a huge favor and stay the hell away from truvia. it's manufactured/adulterated by cargill, the chemical/pesticide/fertilizer company. they've taken a beautiful, pure, safe sweetener and totally frankenstein-ed it. it really broke my heart when i started seeing ads for it. people will buy it thinking it's wholesome and natural and good for them. it's *not!*

i've used stevia for ~5-6 years now. lost 50lbs in 6 months way-back-when using only stevia and a good, healthy low-carb diet and not *touching* artificial sweeteners of any sort (nutrasweet/aspartame, splenda/sucralose [the worst!], saccharine, ace-k, et al). they're all poison, no matter how you slice them.

thanks for reading. :)
