My workplace (a non profit artist-run center in the field of media arts/ video production and distribution) has been hiding a few "abandonned monsters" in its closet : an old high-maintenance laser printer (worst purchase ever), a nearly stone-age digital camcorder that doesn't even have a fire wire(!), 2 SCSI (!) external hard drives, an old (poorly) refurbished copier... you get the idea.
Since my coworkers and bosses aren't really willing to make an extra effort for the sake of our planet, guess who's always trying to find the least damaging way to get rid of the monsters? That's how I came upon these a few minutes ago :
BestBuy's trade-in (they give you money and pay for the shipping of things that still have value, but they even accept stuff that has no value without asking you to pay for the service)
Corporate recycling programs listed on My GreenElectronics I thought I'd share those... and also ask for suggestions from others, especially from fellow Canadians...
Unfortunately, many of these cool programs accept stuff from USA addresses only... Some involve fees that my bosses wouldn't be willing to pay (although I could probably get them to pay a smaller fee...) And I haven't found anything for the old extrenal SCSI hard disks...
I know that Sony Canada has partnerships with local businesses for the recycling of its old products, but what about other brands? Any tips, anyone?
