Reusable coffee filters

I have three coffee pots: one is in storage and uses the same filter as the second anyway, which is the #4 cone filters. I also have one of those ones that will brew two different types of coffee directly into the cups (home or travel). This is ideal for me because my fiance drinks regular coffee and I only drink decaf, and we were not-quite-fighting over who got to make coffee in the morning. And since we usually only each wanted a cup anyway, it's perfect.

But, it's a dollar for ten filters. That's a dollar or more a week, if we both drank coffee every day (as a barista, I don't drink coffee at home every day, but I won't have this job forever). And I feel like it's very wasteful, because I can't compost that much coffee grounds/filters!!

So, I'm looking into getting reusable filters. Both for my little cup-at-a-time maker, and my bigger one (which gets used for guests, and so I can make a pot at a time of coffee for the fridge).

Do you use reusable filters? Where did you get them? Do you have a preference on type (metal versus hemp versus cotton)?

I'm looking at hemp ones but... this is going to seem silly... I think I'm allergic to hemp. I AM allergic to THC, both natural and synthetic, and yes I do realize hemp does not have A LOT of THC but it has some. And the one time I tried to make a hemp necklace in high school, I broke out in hives all over my hands. So I'm not sure how I feel about ingesting stuff that would have gone through hemp. It could be fine but.... it could be tragic. And I wouldn't necessarily have external signs. Anyone else tested this?

I sort of feel like I should just skip the hemp, and go with cotton or metal-screen. But also, I have to fold down the filters because the #2s don't fit perfectly in this coffee maker. So metal may not be the best choice. Am I missing other options?

Thanks for reading!

ETA: Thanks a lot for your thoughts everyone! Obviously if someone has something else to add, please don't hesitate, I just wanted to send a mass THANKS to everyone who has contributed.
