I found something in the memories that mentioned using sage tea as a natural hair darkener. Has anybody actually done this and does it really work? Or what about coffee grounds...if you have successfully used one of these methods, please tell me how you did it (how long to leave on, etc ( Read more... )

I'm glad that you asked this question because I've been wondering the same thing.

I've also tried henna. Not only did it not work very well, but it was also really messy.

I haven't tried tea or coffee, but I would imagine they would both be subtle and fade out pretty quickly. As far as household things go, I've only ever used Kool-Aid, which washes out easily despite permanently coloring everything else it touches.

I did try the Lush thing actually. I've had to give up on henna after several failed experiments over the years. It looks really shiny and nice for a short while and then my hair just turns to straw, basically, despite whatever I do to condition it. I don't know if it's because my hair is naturally so thick and coarse or what.

I have tried sage because I read it could cover white hair.I used it as a lotion, massaged on scalp and hair every night(no-rinse).It's true hair darkened a bit(I have light brown hair I don't know if this is significant)but I wasn't satisfied with the white hair coverage(which didn't surprise me since not even some herbal tints do) so I gave up.But you have to try it for a while for it to have visible results.
Henna wasn't a good choice for me too :)

I like using a tea to colour my whites, it's not perfect, it's not going to cover it all, it takes a bit of commitment, but I do feel that my whites aren't as noticable, it's cheap, and it's not adding chemicals nor changing my hair colour permenantly ( ... )
