Prenatal Vitamins

I am not currently pregnant but hope to be in the next year or so. With my last pregnancy I started taking my prenatals before I got pregnant so I would be used to them, and would have my reserve of folic acid built up. The specific vitamin I took last time gave me a number of side effects, nausea, sleep problems, etc.

I've been trying a bunch of different brands and vitamins with really no success rate as far as them not being difficult to deal with. I've tried prenatals, regular multi-vitamins, childrens vitamins, and very basic ones. I have a heart condition and most of them have caused me an increase in heart rate, arrythmia, exhaustion or the opposite- keep me up at night, etc. etc. I had pre-eclampsia with my first child and when I was borderline pre-e taking my prenatal seemed to increase my heart rate for a bit, and my blood pressure really didn't need to be messed with.

The only thing right now that I take daily is a B Complex vitamin and Vitamin C. Neither give me any problems. I know that right now my folic acid intake is fine, but I'm curious about how much of the other stuff I would actually need when pregnant. Obviously iron and calcium along with what I'm currently taking, but some of the prenatals on the market have a lot of vitamins and minerals. My family's nutrition is excellent. Has anyone ever taken a few separate supplements instead of an entire prenatal combo? Anyone else have issues with prenatals? My Dr is not overly helpful with this topic (though I will be switching soon), and the prescription ones don't seem to make a difference for me.

Just looking for some input! Thanks!
