So, Alec Baldwin was apparently so moved by a story in the New York Times about an 18-year-old girl's last days with family and friends before reporting for training and deploying to Iraq that he (personally) tracked her family down and offered to pay for her education after she got out of the military.
Her reaction?
“It’s very generous,” she said from Fort Hood in Texas, where she is undergoing further training before her unit is deployed to Iraq in September. “Actors have all this money, and it’s a good thing to see them do something other than for themselves and show some character and use their money wisely.”
That better just be a poor choice of quotes by the writer and not a good indication of the girl's actual reaction, because I don't think I've ever heard anyone sound less gracious. She sounds like she thinks she's entitled to the money.
Seems like a more appropriate reaction would have been like..."what an amazing thing for a total stranger to do for someone he doesn't even know/he had no reason to do it and he still did/I hope I can live up to such a generous gift/I'll always be grateful." But what do I know.
